Johns Hopkins Accelerated Summer Entry for BSN/MSN 2014

Published

Hi everyone! As the early and regular decision deadlines for the Hopkins accelerated programs approach, I thought I would start a new thread for this year. It seems like it's been a pretty useful source of support for prior applicants during this grueling process :)

Hi cnp2012!

I was searching "Fuld Fellows JHU" on allnurses, and noticed in a previous forum that you are a Fuld Fellow... I was accepted to JHU with the Fuld Fellowship, and I was looking at the course descriptions for the extra courses that the Fuld students have to take. It mentioned in the course descriptions that "Level ___ Fuld Fellows complete 56 clnical hours..." Is this 56 hours in addition to the other clinical hours we'll have, or are the 56 already part of the other clinical hours? I hope this question makes sense! You can PM me if it's easier. Thank you!

Hi ND_irish! Did you find out you were accepted as a Fuld Fellow in your acceptance letter? Also, are you a BSN-MSN admit? Sorry for the questions, I am a BSN admit only and was just wondering if I would hear about the scholarship soon as tuition is such a big factor in my decision. Thank you!

Hey jdvcj ! Yes, I received the Fuld info with my acceptance letter. It was a separate letter inside the acceptance package that I got in the mail.

Thanks for the info!! I hope there's still hope for us that didn't get the letter in the same package lol. Congrats!

Hi Ames78, I am in the same dilemma. I am deciding between Hopkins and Columbia. I can't choose since Hopkins is my top choice also. Have you decided?

Hi Yusukezoe - Congrats on your acceptances! It's also good to know I'm not alone. I haven't yet made my decision, and to make matters more complicated, I learned on Friday that I was accepted to another direct entry program for FNP (MSN only). It is not lost on me that these are very good problems to have, but that doesn't seem to make the decision easier. Truth be told, I am leaning toward the other two programs as they guarantee admission to the NP program; however, I am debating how important receiving the BSN really is. I've read the many threads on these boards that have debated whether the BSN/MSN programs are superior to the direct entry MSN programs, and yet I find the opportunity costs of each to be pretty equal. I don't know...keep us posted on what you decide, and I'll do the same.

Does anyone know when/how (email vs. snail mail) we should expect to get our financial aid packages?

Also, cnp2012, is there an established procedure for submatriculating into an MSN program during the BSN portion? If so, how many students choose to do that, and are they generally successful?

I just spoke to a financial aid officer and need-based financial aid will be out end of March-early April, they are currently working on preparing them. I also asked some more specifics- and it looks like Fuld Fellowships and Merit Scholarships were notified in the acceptance letters sent out. For need based aid, such as the JHU SON grant, that notification will be with financial aid in a few weeks via snail mail. At most, it will be $10k a year. This would be twice over the 17-month Fall program, and likely won't exceed that amount. If you received a scholarship, you likely won't get need-based aid also, and vice versa. Hope that helps with some initial estimates.

Hey guys! So I know this is for the Summer entry BSN/MSN, but there doesn't seem to be a thread for the Fall entry ABSN (well, I made one but nobody else has answered). Anyway, I just got accepted to the Fall ABSN (not the BSN/MSN), with a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer scholarship! Very exciting. Hope to see some of you there, even though you'll have already started.

Thanks for all of the clinical information! It was very helpful? I would be interesting in gathering more information for people only admitted to BSN but not the MSN and what their chances are of being admitted to MSN program at Hopkins.

Hi,ND_Irish! I was also accepted with the Fuld Fellowship and was wondering the same thing! Have you been able to gather any more information regarding what it entails with regards to clinical work? Have you decided to attend JHU for the fall? Thank you for your help!

I haven't really gotten any info other than the stuff that's on the website, which mostly just talks about what the fellowship is and lists the course descriptions! I guess if I don't get my Qs answered on here or on FB, I'll hopefully find out more at accepted students day. Congrats on the fellowship by the way! I'm trying to decide between Duke and JHU, but I'm leaning more towards JHU!
