Job Offer Rescinded .... Now What???

1st Time Poster!!!!!:yeah:

I applied for an advertised staff position at a facility within walking distance of my home. How cool is that? Approximately 3 weeks after applying, I landed an interview. On a Monday, I interviewed with every "important" person at the facility, and was ultimately offered the position on the spot. I was given a start date which would be 2 weeks away. Long story short, on the Wednesday following the interview, I received a call from the hiring manager stating that the job offer was being rescinded. He stated that the person I would be replacing had rescinded their 2 week notice, so the position was no longer open. I was given the "It's nothing you did" speech. He assured me that if another position opened up, I would be the first one considered.

Now here's the problem: Fast forward 1 month, I'm browsing on the web & I see that this same facility has just posted several job openings. What the f***? I'm so ******!!!!! I don't know what to do. I don't have anything negative on my background but I'm starting to doubt what the Hiring Manager initially said to me. Should I call the facility and find out why I haven't been contacted? Do I give it more time and hope that I'll be contacted?

By all means call.. HR could be on vacation---or replaced. You'll never know if you don't call and ask.

Of course you should call. Better yet, dress up nicely, (like when you interviewed), and go in person.

I would be there bright and early at 9 am on Monday.

Yes go in Monday as if you were going to an interview bring the advertisement with you.

Just because you would be the first one considered doesn't mean they will actively seek you out when another position opens. You need to be proactive about it. As others have mentioned, give them a call and let them know you are still interested.

It doesn't sound like the hiring manet said they would call you if a spot opened up. He said you would be the first. Since it's been a month, the facility probably expects you to apply first because you may have found another job. They don't know you are still looking. So fill out the application and give the hiring manager a call to indicate your interest. No sense in getting all worked up until you actually know what's going on.

Be proactive and apply. It could be the hiring manager was for a specific unit in the facility and it's a completely different unit hiring.

I would apply for the openings you are interested in and then follow up with them. I really don't think that HR was just sitting there with your name, waiting for a position to open up.

I had the same thing happen to be several years ago - still to this day I have NO idea what happened and the HR person never did answer me. I even left messages for the main person I interviewed with. Nothing. Good luck - I hope at least you are able to get an answer.

This has also happened to me, pulled the rug out of under me because someone decided not to leave. But, I didn't see advertisements for the very same position pop up.

First I'd call the guy. Be sure you clearly state your name and spell it, and if you need to leave a message, leave your phone number and state when you interviewed and the outcome of that interview/job offer process. If you get no return call by late afternoon, I'd be right in there with my resume again and the ad.

Most people are not too good at what they do for a living. But you can't change that, so you have to always do extra to help them do their jobs so you can do yours. Words to live by.

what onaclearday said.

"hope" is not a plan. be proactive.
