I *just* watched Jay Leno make a really rude comment about nurses- it went something to the effect of... " you know nurses are the most overworked profession in America... especially in those adult movies" GRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!
Nurses are not Bimbos, Mr. Leno!!!!!! :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :nurse:

I agree with you. But suppose someone has been groped by patients, or is very beautiful and voluptuous and is sick and tired of all the "look at your pretty nurse" comments. Maybe she's tired of jokes like Jay Leno's.I'm gay and laugh at gay jokes myself all the time. But in certain circumstance, such as by straight guys who don't know I'm gay, I quit laughing and it ceases to be funny.
Don't call me weak, or tell to get lighten up.
I thought of that too - :)
Maybe we take ourselves too seriously sometimes.
Maybe we just can't take it anymore.
To each their own.

It is this humorless, litigious, hyper-sensitive kind of thinking that is helping to turn the world into a dreary, stupid, and colorless place. Since when do the rest of us have to sanitize our every utterance so that the dim-witted blokes of the universe won't have anything to blame their thick-headed actions on? Like they need an excuse.Political correctness has gone too far. There's a new class of people that make an art form out of being offended (I'm not referring to anyone in this thread). The last thing I want to do is encourage them.
Wow, I can not agree more!!! What is offensive to one person isn't offensive to someone else.

Were you actually watching "The Tonight Show" that night and heard the joke in context? I was ... and it wasn't that offensive of a joke. I truly do not believe that anyone in his/her right mind would take that joke seriously. It was very tame and did not imply that nurses are of low moral character or "sluts" or anything like that. If it did, I would be objecting to it ... but it really didn't go that far.
Also ... I don't believe I ever called you or anyone else "weak" or tell them in a coorifice way to "lighten up." What I actually said was that when we make a big deal over some of these more minor occurance, it makes us nurses "appear weak." I believe that it is an incorrect political strategy for us to appear weak. We need to project an image of strength and self-assurance and I don't believe that a big reaction to a relatively small joke is in our best interests.
I'm sorry if I offended you Tweety. You and I have participated in enough threads together that I hope you know I never intended that.

Well said. And i'm done here.

No, no, I'm certainly not offended. I didn't mean that anyone or you were calling me weak. I'm just saying I disagree it's a sign of weakness to be offended by jokes. But I guess I missed your point, thanks for the clarification.
No I did not see the Leno joke, and I'm sure I wouldn't be offended and I don't believe I said anywhere I was. However, I'm supportive and understanding of those who are. (being the brunt of many jokes that people find funny which I don't). And if I was offended, I don't think I'd appreciate " it wasn't that offensive of a joke. I truly do not believe that anyone in his/her right mind would take that joke seriously." "or lighten up, it's only a joke". Maybe I would stop and think "yeah, I need to lighten up a bit", but I might be more angry and the comment and miss the point.
I agree there are bigger fish to fry politically for nurses. Some people just may be a bit more sensitive and tired of any jokes, and they need to be heard and respected.
Anyway, like Marie, guess I've said all I need to. :rotfl:

Hey, he, like everyone else gets away with "slamming" nurses, because nurses don't defend themselves. Women don't defend themselves. How many STUPID women are living with idiots? How many women are dieing to pose nude in Playboy? I've never seen such a bunch of wimpy women in my life. I think women are getting wimpier and wimpier and have come to see themselves as sex objects. Soooooooooooooooooo, people like Jay Leno and others like him will continue to exploit women on TV just like everyone else does. Every other commercial is T&A, supermodels, etc. and in the name of "glamour", women are being pushed right back into the corner. Next they won't let us vote again. Nurse are paid crappy salaries too, because they are toooooooooooooooooooooooo wimpy and don't demand anything more. I've been an RN for years and have made many changes almost single handedly for the nursing profession but I can tell you that most nurses that I see today, are listening to all the hype and think that the salary that we get is "normal". So women, nurses everywhere, you better start getting a little spine and determination. Smell the coffee, defend your profession and start having some pride and going for the bigger salaries. And don't take an LPN wage over the RN wage. RN's DO have a longer schooling and more extensive education and DO deserve the higher wage.

I agree! At least we rank in the people worth talking/joking about "category."
I am sure Jay Leno is very aware of the not so pretty requirements of our jobs and that few really have the stomach and heart for "it"...
Anyway...#1 male fantasy will always include a nurses cap, short white dress and high heels......beauty and brains...caps off to us!
