Jay Leno slams nurses!

Published

I *just* watched Jay Leno make a really rude comment about nurses- it went something to the effect of... " you know nurses are the most overworked profession in America... especially in those adult movies" GRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!

Nurses are not Bimbos, Mr. Leno!!!!!! :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :nurse: :nurse: :nurse: :flamesonb :flamesonb

I agree as well. Have you people ever heard of comedy? Relax a little.

It is not OK to mock and make jokes about this issue, maybe we have to relook at those we make jokes of. Unfortunately this can have serious repercussions. A dim-witted bloke hears Jay Leno's joke and thinks that he can grab a nurses private parts the next time he has his blood pressure taken. Or at the very least he will proliferate the misguided image. Some well-versed lawyer should warn him and at the very least he should apologize.

It is this humorless, litigious, hyper-sensitive kind of thinking that is helping to turn the world into a dreary, stupid, and colorless place. Since when do the rest of us have to sanitize our every utterance so that the dim-witted blokes of the universe won't have anything to blame their thick-headed actions on? Like they need an excuse.

Political correctness has gone too far. There's a new class of people that make an art form out of being offended (I'm not referring to anyone in this thread). The last thing I want to do is encourage them.

I so totally agree. I've said it before and I'll say it again ... Not being able to take a few jokes is a sign of weakness. It makes us look "small" and "petty." We need to work on appearing "big" and "strong" -- and we won't gain any ground if we require that the world tippy toe around us.

We don't want people to hesitate to include us in interdisciplinary activities etc. because "those poor nurses are too fragile and easily offended to handle it." We shouldn't want to be thought of as "wimps" or "prigs."

And I'm just shocked that anyone voted for that smarmy Botoxed Kerry guy. ;)

I was looking for the "none of the above" box

Yeah, kinda offending......

HOWEVER he did refer to us as the most overworked profession.... that at least gives a little credit. Then knocks us down with the "adult" movie thing... just humor. Laugh at the last part, but I am just happy that we nurses are now reffered to as overworked. FINALLY.

I love your description of the world today, as it is so apt!! It's so sad that this political correctness has made everything so damn bland!

I respectfully disagree and beleive that your attitude is not conducive to a healthy society. I really feel sorry for you and hope you will learn to find humour and good will in things that don't hurt others

Have a good day!

I have to respectfully disagree . . . I find Miranda wonderfully witty and warm and good for my soul.

Thank you for being so articulate. Wonderful post.

I think any intelligent self respecting nurse would be offended by comparing our profession with the oldest profession since creation. I don't think it is being hypersensitive or unreasonable.. The ability to laugh at oneself is a sign of maturity, but Mr. Leno went too far and owes us an apology.

If we want respect as a profession we have to distance ourselves from these putdowns...respectfully. I fully understand that Mr. Leno tells jokes for a living and he has no-holds-barred approach so I expect very little from him but when we put ourselves down we have no reason to expect respect from our co-workers and the general public.

Learn a lesson from the fictitious "Hot Lips" (M*A*S*H*). She held herself in high esteem and demanded respect ( in comparison to the other nurses she worked with) yet was able to (on occasion) laugh at herself etc. and in the end she earned her respect and position.

When a doctor or a co-worker makes a 'dirty joke' or makes reference to my physical attributes despite my modest dress, I make if clear (gently) that I am not an audience to such topics of discussion. In the long run I am the one they refer to with respect and professionalism

So go ahead and laugh...enjoy it . But remember...He who laughs last laughs best!:rotfl: :chuckle

Um, "Hot Lips" didn't hold her self in high esteem or she would not have taken up with Frank Burns!! :)

I have no problem with you not putting up with Jay making the joke and if you want to complain to him, that is cool.

I just think Miranda put it so very well - some of us are tired of political correctness.

I am not however happy with vulgarities or rudeness - I had breakfast this morning at a nice little local restaurant and was just at the end of some great eggs and fried potatoes when 4 hunters came in and they had a little problem with using the "F" word as noun, verb and adjective. Loudly. I don't appreciate that kind of behavior - especially in a family restaurant.
