January 6 Select Committee

Published

Things seem to be unfolding rather quickly. Former White House aides and advisors are scrambling to cover themselves as they receive subpoenas to appear and produce documents.

It’s rare when lawyers — as opposed to their clients — take the Fifth Amendment. But Jeffrey Clark, the former Justice Department lawyer who reportedly tried to help Donald Trump overturn the 2020 presidential election, is now claiming the privilege against self-incrimination to avoid testifying before the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. He has just been joined in that posture by one of Trump’s main outside legal advisers, John Eastman.

The lawsuit comes after the committee signaled it would pursue a criminal contempt referral against Meadows because of his refusal to sit for a deposition in the investigation into the Capitol riot. Meadows alleges that the subpoenas are "overly broad and unduly burdensome," while claiming that the committee "lacks lawful authority to seek and to obtain" the information requested.

And apparently Mark Meadows had a power point outlining how to overturn election results.

The 38-page presentation, entitled "Election Fraud, Foreign Interference & Options for 6 Jan," is dated one day before the Capitol riot. It's believed to have been submitted by Meadows after he was subpoenaed by the panel in connection with the insurrection.

Only the finest people...

Actually, I think testicle-tanning is a grand idea. I don’t follow men’s reproductive health, but I remember reading about the idea that sperm production is impaired by elevated temps.

If it doesn’t interfere with Tucker maybe.

It does. Perhaps men should start tanning their testicle. Considering abortion is going to be "outlawed".

I was only able to see bits and pieces. I like how they included text messages from Ingraham and Hannity, advising the former guy to call it off. The committee has been very skillful in using former staff and other allies as evidence.

I had seen those texts before, so I really felt the most riveting moment was Ms. Hutchinson's description of herself and the President's valet cleaning the rivulets of ketchup running down the wall of the Oval Office dining room after he chucked his lunch at said wall.

Kind of makes me extra glad we have systems in place that prevent one person from launching nukes, especially when that person's forebrain has been hijacked by a primitive, narcissistic rage.

The most enduring theme of this administration may turn out to be the phalanx of people who spent most of their time trying to prevent Trump from acting on his impulses.  I'm thinking of all the things he tried to get the United States armed forces to do, which they refused to do.

I am not following the hearings, just dipping in here and there when I have the energy. I’m not informed enough to remark on specifics, but I’ve seen some intriguing stuff.

Every time I’ve tuned in, I saw the committee laying out a lot of concrete, checkable evidence along with a lot of sworn testimony from people who were “in thee room”. Beats a cyber-symposium hands down for credibility.

I wanna be Liz Cheney when I grow up.

ETA: am currently watching the cspan broadcast of the sixth public meet g. So far mainly views of the press corps and glad-handing politicians. Review pending.

It is important to remember that Trump was likely still on steroids at that time from his acute brush with covid.  It's easy to imagine that his pharmaceutical regime at that time may have been making him rage prone.  We'll never know about that because his medical staff were dishonest as hell.

It was interesting that there were 3 types of people in Trump's circle... those who egged him on, and made excuses or pointed fingers at others... those who were ambivalent but didn't want to rock the boat or make the former president angry... and those who told him he lost, the election wasn't rigged, and he should call off the mob attack.  Meadows wanted to be in group one but it was safer for him to be in group two. I wonder if he will go to prison.

Uhm, those would be corticosteroids not anabolic steroids.  And no one is going to prison unless its to visit Hunter Biden in the near future.

Do you know the side effects of corticosteroids?
