January 6 Select Committee

Published

Things seem to be unfolding rather quickly. Former White House aides and advisors are scrambling to cover themselves as they receive subpoenas to appear and produce documents.

It’s rare when lawyers — as opposed to their clients — take the Fifth Amendment. But Jeffrey Clark, the former Justice Department lawyer who reportedly tried to help Donald Trump overturn the 2020 presidential election, is now claiming the privilege against self-incrimination to avoid testifying before the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. He has just been joined in that posture by one of Trump’s main outside legal advisers, John Eastman.

The lawsuit comes after the committee signaled it would pursue a criminal contempt referral against Meadows because of his refusal to sit for a deposition in the investigation into the Capitol riot. Meadows alleges that the subpoenas are "overly broad and unduly burdensome," while claiming that the committee "lacks lawful authority to seek and to obtain" the information requested.

And apparently Mark Meadows had a power point outlining how to overturn election results.

The 38-page presentation, entitled "Election Fraud, Foreign Interference & Options for 6 Jan," is dated one day before the Capitol riot. It's believed to have been submitted by Meadows after he was subpoenaed by the panel in connection with the insurrection.

No. Trump has done allot of incriminating things but this is pretty far fetched. He said this is what happens when people feel there's an injustice, you know, just like BLM riots. Except he told them to go home in peace and love, not call it a Summer of love. Like the autonomous zone chop or Chaz complete  with its own boarder patrol, militant policing and rapes and murders. Of POC no less. In the US! Ha. Ridiculous!

Yes, this is what happens before criminal charges are brought up. However we all know this won't happen, even if they could. That would mean a defence and that's is not what these committee members want. They want to spout off their one sided BS without any push back.

Right, we can see all this on-line with his entire speech. The FBI already said there was no evidence of prior planning. Yet we are here.......

Yep... we all watched and listened to the corrupt language used to undermine elections and then we watched the attack on the capitol after we were aware that Trump's team wasn't participating in an orderly transfer of power.  Most of us are now watching the presentation of the rather abundant evidence that Trump was trying to retain lost power.

First conservatives ignored his obvious lack of relevant experience and then they ignored his obvious character flaws when they were confronted with his debauchery (remember him lying directly about knowing nothing about the hush payment to the Media star?) and then they ignored his daily lies and abuse of power.  Now those conservatives want us to ignore all connections between Trump and this violent attempt to keep him in the presidency.

I'm not certain that you can provide proof of that intent... you know, one sided BS without push back... they are showing Trump's intent to overthrow the elected government,  you should watch the hearing today.

Talk about far fetched... but here we are.  This first step to accountability seems to be very uncomfortable for some conservatives. We'll be a better country if all of the people are accountable to follow laws and legal precedent.

Yes,  It's the better part of valor to simply obey the law when violence is involved.  It boggles my mind how many people in America are so casual about criminality amongst it's politicians.  When people are paid with tax dollars, I hold them to, at the very least, not support a violent insurrection.  Your head has to be deeply inserted into the orifice not to LOOK at the videos and decide that this deserves scrutiny.

Rudy Guliani? The Kraken Lady? Everyone claiming executive privilege or pleading the 5th? Perry Mason?

The House Majority Leader had the opportunity to nominate members to the committee. When 2 were rejected, he pulled the other 3 and refused to participate. And now I hear the former guy is realizing that was a mistake and is railing on McCarthy. He is threatening  not to support McCarthy as the next speaker. Sad.

We"ll see. Surely causing an insurrection will bring charges......

Perhaps.  The testimony today is very interesting. "Just say the election was corrupt and leave the rest to me and the the Republican congressmen."

Agree that it’s a bit late in the day to be clutching at pearls over process.

Two Republicans actually managed to get themselves on the committee, so I know it was possible to do. If the Republicans retake the house, they’re welcome to revisit the evidence and ask their questions. I would look forward to it … a chance to compare versions side-by-side. Meanwhile, I’m keeping an eye on Texas. The state Republican platform  is scary.

Cross examination done by House attorneys and committee members during depositions.  Committee members also questioned during public hearings,  like Rep. Kinzenger did today.

I’m not sure a learned much new (to me) info other than The Kracken lawyer was lined up to be the special prosecutor to investigate election fraud.
That Jeff Clark dude is in so much trouble. I’ll bet he’s wishing he had that pardon now.

I loved the line “go back to your office and we’ll call you when there’s an oil spill.”

I happened to listen to that again a few days before Bowers, Raffensperger and Sterling testified.  In those waning few weeks before, during and after the attack on the Capitol, these people literally seemed to be spending all their time badgering and harassing Republican state legislators to break the law.

Relating to the simultaneous badgering and harassment of Justice Dept leadership-- not sure if anyone else has posted these links, but here are full interviews of Jeffrey Rosen and Richard Donoghue where you see that what we heard on TV was the tip of the iceberg in terms of the unrelenting pressure these Trump appointees were subjected to.

I can't help but be disgusted that even "mainstream media" tends to treat Trump as a viable candidate, just as they often refer to Steve Bannon and Roger Stone as "former Trump political consultants" rather than mention their crimes and their pardons.

Yes, let's see ALL the tapes no just the selective ones that Dems want us to see.  You mean following the laws like sanctuary cities do?  Give me a break
