Things seem to be unfolding rather quickly. Former White House aides and advisors are scrambling to cover themselves as they receive subpoenas to appear and produce documents.

It’s rare when lawyers — as opposed to their clients — take the Fifth Amendment. But Jeffrey Clark, the former Justice Department lawyer who reportedly tried to help Donald Trump overturn the 2020 presidential election, is now claiming the privilege against self-incrimination to avoid testifying before the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. He has just been joined in that posture by one of Trump’s main outside legal advisers, John Eastman.

The lawsuit comes after the committee signaled it would pursue a criminal contempt referral against Meadows because of his refusal to sit for a deposition in the investigation into the Capitol riot. Meadows alleges that the subpoenas are "overly broad and unduly burdensome," while claiming that the committee "lacks lawful authority to seek and to obtain" the information requested.
And apparently Mark Meadows had a power point outlining how to overturn election results.

The 38-page presentation, entitled "Election Fraud, Foreign Interference & Options for 6 Jan," is dated one day before the Capitol riot. It's believed to have been submitted by Meadows after he was subpoenaed by the panel in connection with the insurrection.

May 12, 2022 Press Release
QuoteChairman Thompson released the following statement:
“The Select Committee has learned that several of our colleagues have information relevant to our investigation into the attack on January 6th and the events leading up to it. Before we hold our hearings next month, we wished to provide members the opportunity to discuss these matters with the committee voluntarily. Regrettably, the individuals receiving subpoenas today have refused and we’re forced to take this step to help ensure the committee uncovers facts concerning January 6th. We urge our colleagues to comply with the law, do their patriotic duty, and cooperate with our investigation as hundreds of other witnesses have done.”
Over the past several months, the Select Committee sent letters to these five Members of Congress seeking voluntary cooperation with the investigation into the violent attack on the Capitol on January 6th. These members include those who participated in meetings at the White House, those who had direct conversations with President Trump leading up to and during the attack on the Capitol, and those who were involved in the planning and coordination of certain activities on and before January 6th. (Click to view previous letters to Rep. McCarthy, Rep. Perry, Rep. Jordan, Rep. Biggs, and Rep. Brooks.)
Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy was in communication with President Trump before, during, and after the attack on January 6th. Mr. McCarthy was also in communication with other members of the White House staff during the attack and in the days before and after January 6th concerning the events at the Capitol. Mr. McCarthy also claimed to have had a discussion with the President in the immediate aftermath of the attack during which President Trump admitted some culpability for the attack.
Representative Scott Perry was directly involved with efforts to corrupt the Department of Justice and install Jeffrey Clark as acting Attorney General. In addition, Mr. Perry had various communications with the White House about a number of matters relevant to the Select Committee’s investigation, including allegations that Dominion voting machines had been corrupted.
Representative Jim Jordan was in communication with President Trump on January 6th and participated in meetings and discussions throughout late 2020 and early 2021 about strategies for overturning the 2020 election.
Representative Andy Biggs participated in meetings to plan various aspects of January 6th and was involved with plans to bring protestors to Washington for the counting of Electoral College votes. Mr. Biggs was involved in efforts to persuade state officials that the 2020 was stolen. Additionally, former White House personnel identified Mr. Biggs as potentially being involved in an effort to seek a presidential pardon for activities connected with the former President’s efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
Representative Mo Brooks spoke at the rally on January 6th, encouraging rioters to “start taking down names and kicking ***.” In addition, Mr. Brooks has publicly described conversations in which the former President urged him to work to “rescind the election of 2020” and reinstall Mr. Trump as President. The Select Committee also has evidence that Mr. Brooks’s staff met with members of Vice President Pence’s staff before January 6th and conveyed the view that the Vice President does not have authority to unilaterally refuse to count certified electoral votes....
I'm especially upset with Representative Scott Perry R-PA representing our state capital Harrisburg area ,with his efforts to install Jeffrey Clark as AG; his attempts to DENY my PA vote by installing false "alternate" electors. They lost me as a Republican when Trump was selected by their party --especially after I saw how he stiffed workers at his AC casinos in 80's.

On April 20th,2022 January 6th committee received DOJ request for transcripts and documents committee has obtained regarding Capital invasion per NY TImes today. First inkling that DOJ working on issue. Committee hasn't decided which documents to release. The Justice Department and the House committee haven't commented on NY Times report per ABC News. Suspect it may not occur until first of 8 public hearings starting June 9th, 2022. I'll be at my camp position from 6/20, so will pop in when I can; I be checking CSPAN committee hearings before bedtime as will be busy settling in first 2 week.

The committee has interviewed more than 1,000 people so far, and the transcripts could be used as evidence in potential criminal cases or to pursue new leads.

Quote...On April 20, Kenneth A. Polite Jr., the assistant attorney general for the criminal division, and Matthew M. Graves, the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, wrote to Timothy J. Heaphy, the lead investigator for the House panel, advising him that some committee interviews “may contain information relevant to a criminal investigation we are conducting.”
Mr. Polite and Mr. Graves did not indicate the number of transcripts they were requesting or whether any interviews were of particular interest. In their letter, they made a broad request, asking that the panel “provide to us transcripts of these interviews, and of any additional interviews you conduct in the future.”...
...Thus far, the Justice Department’s investigation has focused more on lower-level activists who stormed the Capitol than on the planners of the attack. But in recent weeks, Mr. Garland has bolstered the core team tasked with handling the most sensitive and politically combustible elements of the inquiry.
Several months ago, the department quietly detailed a veteran federal prosecutor from Maryland, Thomas Windom, to the department’s headquarters. He is overseeing the politically fraught question of whether a case can be made related to other efforts to overturn the election, aside from the storming of the Capitol. That task could move the investigation closer to Mr. Trump and his inner circle....
January 6 committee to hold 8 hearings in June, chairman says
Quote
Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson, who chairs the House select committee investigating the January 6 Capitol Hill insurrection, told reporters Thursday that the committee will hold eight hearings spread out through the month of June.
Thompson said the hearings will be a "mixture of some prime time and some regular" and they "will tell the story about what happened." Thompson also said he expects "at this point the first hearing is June 9th," though that date did not appear to be finalized...
This "comment" reported from Trump not surprising.

The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol collected testimony that then-White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows remarked to others that then-President Donald Trump indicated his support for hanging Vice President Mike Pence after rioters who stormed the Capitol on that day started chanting “Hang Mike Pence!”
The account of Meadows’s comment characterizing Trump’s reaction to his vice president was provided to the committee by at least one witness, according to people familiar with the investigation — but those people did not describe the tone with which the comment was made. They spoke on the condition of anonymity to be more candid about a sensitive topic.
The development was first reported by the New York Times...
...The Washington Post previously reported that Trump vented to those around him about Pence as he watched on television as rioters besieged the Capitol. At 2:24 p.m., minutes after the vice president and his family were endangered by the pro-Trump mob and forced to flee the Senate chamber, Trump tweeted that Pence lacked “courage”:...

He didn't just stiff his workers (that's just a given); he promised the city his casino would never cost them a dime in taxes. Then it went broke during construction and he turned to the city for money but built it cheaply. It was closed for occupancy in 2014 due to disrepair and imploded in Feb. of 2021. It shocks me how people will vote for any.single.stupid.liar that comes along when there was decades of documentation of his character and inability not to go bankrupt. But it appears that they are perfectly willing to do it again. It appears that Pennsylvania really IS Pittsburgh and Philadelphia separated by Florida.

QuoteThe House select committee investigating the January 6 insurrection of the US Capitol formally announced Thursday that its first public hearing will take place on June 9 at 8 p.m. ET....
...
The first hearing will be a broad overview of the panel’s 10-month investigation and set the stage for subsequent hearings, which are expected to cover certain topics or themes, sources tell CNN.
While the setup of the hearings has been a work in progress and evolving, sources note, the presentations will likely feature video clips from January 6, as well as some of the nearly 1,000 interviews the committee has conducted behind closed doors. That could help the committee share more testimony as well as deal with potentially recalcitrant witnesses
Injured former Capital and DC police expected to provide live opening witness testimony.

Grand jury indicts former Trump adviser Peter Navarro for contempt of Congress

...According to the Justice Department, Navarro will make an appearance in court Friday at 2:30 p.m. ET in Washington.
He faces two contempt counts: one for his failure to produce documents demanded by the committee and the second for failing to show up for subpoenaed testimony before House investigators.

Navarro is an interesting example of right wing extremism right now.

Yep... held in jail now, arrested at airport as considered a flight risk. That's what DOJ does when your a high profile person, served as trade advisor in White House ignored congressional request to appear then subpoena.

During a court appearance in Washington, DC, on Friday, Navarro said that he still wants to represent himself without a lawyer and accused prosecutors of using "hardball" tactics by arresting him at an airport and not allowing him to make a phone call.
Navarro said he was arrested at a DC-area airport Friday on his way to Nashville.

I'm really looking forward to this. Also experiencing a wave of nostalgia for the Watergate hearings which also were televised in the Summer, and for some reason I found more fascinating than All My Children as a teenager. ?

January 6th was the "stop the steal" electorial vote rally.
Alexander Burns and Jonathan Martin, who cover politics for The Times, are the authors of “This Will Not Pass: Trump, Biden and the Battle for America’s Future.” They appeared on Rachel Maddow's show last night and introduced recording of House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy meeting with House Leadership on January 10th, discussing invoking 25th amendment and telling Trump he needs to resign prior to getting impeached, which McCarthy expected to occur.
What all will the Jan. 6th committee hearings reveal? Rep. Cheney states she did not release this audio tape.
CNN then released next day 1/11 tape, provided by these authors, where McCarthy also claims Trump acknowledged to him that he bears responsibility for January 6th.
