Is it weird not to wear a scrub top?

I recently talked with a resident friend of mine who rotates at different hospitals than the one I work. I recently met up with him before I had to go to work. I was wearing what I typically wear - scrub pants and a plain solid colored t-shirt. He thought it was so weird that I didn't wear scrub tops.

But now that I think about it, the majority of the nurses on my floor do wear nurse scrub tops ...

Is it unprofessional to wear solid colored t-shirts/ long sleeves?

I personally wear a scrub top cuz I want the pockets to keep my pens, hemostats, and other various supplies in them, but I don't think it looks bad to not wear one.

My first thought when I saw this thread was of one of our charge nurses coming in a few weeks ago wearing a grungy t-shirt and warm-up type pants. She literally looked like she had rolled out of bed and came it. It looked awful, unprofessional, and exceptionally sloppy. She was not called in, this was a regular shift and she showed up in what looked like pajamas.

In that particular instance, I'm definitely against t-shirts instead of scrub tops. Personally, I like the scrub tops because they give me all the pockets and room I need to carry my junk around! If you look professional and put together, great. Just don't show up to run a 12 hour shift in your pj's...:uhoh3:

Oh, good! I thought I was the only one who hated those cartoon tops.
Me three. Yuck.

i personally do not like scrub tops, but sometimes wear them for the pockets.

if i wear a tee shirt, then i'll wear a lab jacket/coat, again, for the storage.

(and i don't like the cartoon tops either! suppose they're great for peds, though)

I don't care for cartoon tops personally, :lol2:I think they MIGHT be ok in Peds. but that is the only place I would consider wearing them.

Cargo pants. Excellent storage.

I prefer a scrub tops due to I would be lost without my front pockets.

You want storage...try a flightsuit!!!!! I have two huge zippered pockets on each leg plus a scissor pocket on my inner left thigh, pen and flashlight pockets (4) with straps on the outside of one of my leg pockets, two chest pockets that go nearly down to my waist, a flap pocket with individual compartments on top of a zippred pocket on my left bicep and two trouser pockets. The down side is having to get undressed to go to the bathroom and the fact that they are made of Nomex which absolutely does NOT breathe!:uhoh3:

I think plain colored t-shirts do look more professional than scrub tops. They look like they fit better and are less sloppy looking.

I wish I spent money on t-shirts rather than scrub tops. And flat front scrub pants. It just looks nicer.

I prefer scrub tops and buy the ones that are fitted or have the little ties on the back so that I can make them fitted. Mostly because I like having the storage pockets.

However, I have nothing against someone wearing the t-shirts so long as they're in good shape, solid colored and fit well.

Sometimes I wonder if some people look in the mirror before they get into the car headed for work at times. What's with the super baggy pajama looking scrubs & scrubs that look like jogging suits? Bleh!
