I have worked on a post partum floor that covered antepartum, post op gyn surgeries, as well as post partum. *No couplet care. I am due to start my new job that is a couplet care unit. *I look forward to cross training after a while in L and D.

My dh and I lived in 29 Palms for almost four years. 75 miles one way to nursing school each day. Another military wife here. I was fortunate enough that on my dh's first duty station, we stayed put for four years. Enough time for me to complete nursing school. Due to the constant moves, a large family and potential deployments, I chose to stay at home. I did work for 1 1/2 years at our last duty station. My original state of licensure is CA. My license has always been current . Now, that we are approaching retirement, I plan to go to work. My kids are approaching college age ....time for me to go to work to pay for college. I have been around military wives (RN's) that have chosen to work, and those that have made the choice to stay at home. Both have been successful. Military spouses have a challenging lifestyle. But we survive :)

I agree, Nurse is a title that is earned. I am very protective of my title. I hate the confusion that is generated when people call themselves a nurse. Maybe, it has something to do with the fact that our language does not have another word that can be used to adequately describe a lay person that is taking care of someone that is ill, elderly, or disabled. Parents nurse their kids back to health New moms nurse their babies Back in "The Day", there were wet nurses. ...I am sure there are many more Since the term "NURSE" is used in such generic ways, maybe we should ask if they are an RN, LVN, LPN. I mean let's face it, our language is quite confusing. We make all of these grammar/spelling rules, only to turn around and give a list a mile long of exceptions.. And let's not even get into homonyms. LOL. Once, again, I am there with you all with the frustration.

I am so thankful that there is such a variety of people in the nursing profession. This variety allows us to work together to meet the needs for each specialty. Thank you for filling a very special need.

I have been an RN for 14 years and have NEVER worked in CA. I have managed to keep my CA license active because of my CEU's. Good luck in getting those CEU's completed for your license. Just a rabbit trail.....I don't think I will ever let my CA license lapse. Took me too long to get it :). We won't retire in CA, but I will always keep my original licensure. current.

Anyone that has had a migraine will tell you.........that is NOT drug seeking. I can take one look at someone and I will know if they have a migraine or not. I have never had just a normal headache. All of my headaches have always been migraines. Praying that you can't get control of these headaches very soon.

Kimbalou, I too had to wait 10-12 weeks for my results....after two long days consisting of four test sessions. Puking did not come to mind after the sessions. I did go into my hotel room four months pregnant and tell them I was fried after two sessions. I am not a drinker, but I came close to wanting to be one after those sessions. Praying here for positive results. Keep us posted.

Susan 9608, good idea. Another way I discouraged gossip was to say something edifying about the person. Counteract the gossip with a complement. Most of the time, it changed the entire atmosphere totally.

Working the night shift is where I discovered Moutain Dew. I would drink one around 0300 and that usually was enough to get me home safely. LOL. Sometimes, I would drink coffee, but not too often.

Congratulations !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I became a nurse, and am currently a stay at home mom. Looking forward to returning to the nursing profession upon my husband's retirement from the military. Five kids; three of which are teenagers, college costs staring me in the face (My three teens will all be in college within two years), I am going to have to return to work.
