So I kind of got a job as a CNA at a Nursing and Rehab facility, and I really like it. I'm excited to gain a nursing home experience since I'm used to working Assisted living/home health. Everyone there is so nice and the DON is also. Would it be unprofessional on my part if I can work holidays though? Unfortunately, my dorm closes during Thanksgiving/Christmas break and I live an hour and some minutes away.
My personality is way different than over the internet, trust me. Lol plus I wouldn't go as far to judge someone's ability to care for someone based on how they act over the internet. But anyway, peace and blessings to y'all. I really do appreciate all the different input and of course taking time out the day to even respond, too.
I wise person once said "If you can't handle any possible answer, DON'T ASK THE QUESTION." This is especially true on the internet.
Given your last post, you might consider asking a mod to close your thread. Many people respond to a thread without reading the other posts. What you might want to get out of the fact that the responses are "repetitive" is that there is a pretty strong consensus here from people who have experience in the field. So chances are you are going to get more and more of the same.
Nope. repetitive feedbacks just gets annoying after awhile. Thanks anyway tho
You posted in a large nursing forum that gets a lot of traffic. Perhaps you didn't understand that you posted in a large nursing forum that gets a lot of traffic and that your post would remain on the forum even after you got lots of answers you didn't like. People read and respond to the first post, then they scroll down and continue reading and maybe respond to more posts in the thread. Once you put it out there, you lose control of where it goes.
You need to find the policy asap. If you have to leave for Christmas and unable to drive back and forth, you will probably need to quit the job. In the units I work in, it is unacceptable for people to have to leave for large chunks unless they are per diem and even then they have to work 1 or 2 holidays a year. If you are scheduled, you need to talk to your manager asap about your situation. She may have assumed you had a permanent address in the town and not living in the college dorms.

Your other option is to quit the job in your home town. Whatever it is, it's like being an umpire in a baseball game: You can't make your call without making somebody mad. Make your call and stick with it, and you only have one bench mad.
So,......in the hospital's I've worked,......nurses are NEVER allowed to take a weeks vacation from the week of Thanksgiving until after New Years. This is an utterly draconian policy! Essentially, they are a saying that if you have, say, parents who can't travel and they live a fair distance away, you will never, ever, be able to spend the holidays with them again. Even if it's not your holiday to work, you can't get the time off to travel. How can the hospitals even consider this fair?!!? I'm not saying everyone can take the week between Christmas and New Years off every year but every few years it should be an option. Nurses really need to take back their rights and dignity.
