Is anyone else leery of posting?
I just started a new thread, but thought better of it.
After reading that post the other day, from a nurse who'd posted something and her coworkers figured out that it was her, and there were repercussions at work, I'm rather leery of posting anything......just wondering if anyone else has the same thoughts......

well like always, erring on the side of caution and common sense usually keeps you on the OK side of things. I am not leery but then I do'nt list where I work or name names ever.
Well, I don't, either...as I understand it, the nurse who posted didn't, either.
Just from whatever details she provided, it enabled "them" (?) to somehow deduce her identity.
Must be alot of lurkers out there....

Golden rule - don't post something that you would not want read at work. Everyone at work knows who I am and I respect them enough not to wash dirty linen here (Not that we have any!!) Even case studies have been from long ago and far away. If you are posting something - obcure the details - i.e. change the age, gender or race of the patient you are describing and especially change the time i.e. This happened a few years ago (actually last week) I was working in a different hospital (Actually I never left here) and it was an elderly man with labour pains (Okay some details you can't change! )

Most of my co-workers do not use the internet.
i agree with gwenith. why would one use the internet to air dirty laundry at work anyhow? bad idea....
advice is one thing....
dissing people or the workplace, not smart. not online.
i guess that was what I meant before..............
use your head.

I am not leery, but after one of the nurses here left a few years back because her co-workers reported things she wrote here, I make sure I am not specific. I cannot understand why people would post their e-mail addy's and personal web page and put their picture as their avatar and then bytch about their co-workers and work place. This is NOt a secure, private nursing board. Anyone including your co-workers and patients could utilize this site.

I have participated in internet discussions since the early 1990's, and have watched this issue evolve over the years. People forget that when they post something, it's "out there" for the world to see. It's like going to a public square and shouting it out loud. A few people have to learn the hard way that when they say things in a public forum, other people may hear it (or, in this case, read it.)
So ... I am not leery of posting, but when I post, I am aware that anyone and everyone might read what I write.

I have never told anyone at work my allnurse name, I don't even talk about allnurse or mention I come here. If I talk about an article I read here I infer I read it in magazine. If I discuss a thread I say "someone told me". That is a not a lie because if a person makes a post on a thread they are telling you something. On a few occasions I have taken printouts from articles or threads to show to someone in to work. I cut off all reference to allnurse and my name when I show it to them. I tell them I got if off the computer but they always think someone sent it to me in email. Just a few minor things but no one has ever figured me out and I don't want them to do so. PS That is my grandaughters picture there but you will never see mine.

It is also surprising how many people can log on and even post from work. Never post from work I say, read, but don't log in or post. I do feel we need to be able to vent, B&M

Three cheers for stating the obvious! (Really, I'm glad you did.) So much is common sense, and so much of our troubles are of our own creation.
I'm one of those people who is pretty happy, most of the time. But sometimes a coworker will have a beef, and I'll hear about it. Eventually, it might begin to grate on me, so, should it come up again, I might tend to be on the side of The Annoyed One. And invariably, this will come back to bite me.
Makes no sense. I've known people who've complained constantly, with and without basis, and they seem to have no problem from it.
I guess if I have to choose between keeping my mouth shut and being safe and happy, versus complaining and (apparently) being miserable all the time but having a secure job, I pick "A."
Not getting caught whining and bytching is a side benefit....
