New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

hi there, been following this thread for like a week now. I am also in the process of deciding whether to lodge my application to QNC or just do it with the help of a consultancy firm. The one that I am considering is ASNC-ANSM. I've read on earlier pages that some people here signed-up with them. I just want to know,is there anyone following this thread now who has also availed of their services? My husband and I weighed the pros and cons of applying in person versus lodging my application with their help. Of course the main advantage of doing it on my own is that we would save at least 4 thousand AUD. But honestly, I am worried that when I get to QLD for my 4-week practicals (assuming that I pass the Challenge Test-written), I would have a hard time looking for my sponsor, accomodation, not to mention my transportation. With this in mind, my hubby and I thought of computing how much would we spend if I arrive in QLD like 2 weeks before my clinicals to scout the area. Of course the sum was still less that what the agency is asking for but considering all the hassles...

Plus, since I am married with a kid already, I am thinking that what the agency is asking is reasonable considering that my family will get to be with me when I'm already sponsored by an employer. As I also understand, hubby can also work without restrictions and any child/children can go to public schools. I mean, with that amount, it's also like saying I applied/paid for the three of us already to work and be in Australia legally.

Any insights on this? Any one of you who availed of this consultancy's services? I tried looking for a particular thread regarding this agency but I think it was already closed. My apologies if I did or said anything wrong with my post (like mentioning the agency's name). Not used to posting yet.

Thanks in advance, Godbless to all of us!

one more question, how do i subscribe to this thread? thanks... as i've said-- still new to this stuff although i've been a member since last year.

thanks again!

Thank you so much ciao_88! Sorry I can't pm you yet but thank you for your advice. Goodluck and Godbless on you CAS exams. By the way, you mentioned that once you get your QLD license, you'll be applying for reciprocity (or endorsement, right?) to NSW? Can that be done even if you still haven't worked in QLD yet and just had your license? If that is possible then I think I would want that too since all of my mom's realtives are in Sydney and I think it would be easier for us to adjust since there will be relatives nearby to go to for financial and of course emotional support.

hay... I wish I could PM already...

Another thing, I've also encountered the name of the female migration agent that you mention in your PM to me but I just passed by it. I'll try Google-ing her again, see if I can have a number or an address.

Thanks! :D

First, welcome to the thread :)

Second, I'd like to correct something you have said - 4 weeks practicals after you've passed the Challenge test Part A - this is incorrect. The 4 weeks practicals will be only be available for you if you take the Education Modules pathways OR if you take the Challenge test pathway and failed Part B or the clinical component in Part A.

Third, if you have experience in nursing, I suggest doing a DIY - it's not so hard to find a sponsor as long as you have the experience. I know someone who haven't even started the BP but passed his resume to employers and luckily got an offer. If you don't have any experience, DIY is still okay but a bit more risky. However, almost all of the thread posters here are inexperienced nurses and have done it on their own. However, agencies are okay too if you're too scared and are okay to pay a large sum of money.

Fourth, Accommodation and Transportation is not that hard to go about - it's all online :) Even if you do it on your own, you will still be able to have your whole family come with you since that is the bonus side of Australian visas. Your husband can work only if you are on your working visa already or should u hold a student visa or PR.

Hope that helps a bit. :)

I got my QNC assessment. Application acknowledgement was Feb 27, and the assessment letter was dated May 21. I still need a few requirements though, and I have till August 19 to provide it.

People who got their acknowledgement March, your assessment is probably on its way!

I am not sure if you are aware of the National Registration on July 2010. Anyway, endorsement of license will be obsolete at the time since every nurse will just have one license valid throughout Australia. However, before that date, the current law regarding state licenses is still in place.

Thanks for the update..what other requirements are they asking for ? so mine is one the way hopefully soon..

Hi Aelith..

so in order to do the 4week practical or part b..i have to fail the clinical module in part A. I thought one was allowed to choose the part b or an educational module..So which is true ? I found this in the pocket book for the Part B of the CAS exam

"Applicants who achieved 80% or more in the Evidence Based Practice/Clinical Issues component of the Part A Challenge Test but did not pass all other subject areas are eligible to proceed to Part B Clinical Challenge upon completion of the required education modules. Applicants who are eligible to proceed to Part B Clinical Challenge may opt to undertake the clinical practice education module instead."

I think nyk is right, you can opt to do the clinical placement instead of the Part B Clinical challenge Test.

Actually i've read it also that you can choose whether to take the clinical placement or the part B. It really depends on your preference. if you're not too confident with your nursing skills, you may opt to do the 160hrs clinical placement, but if you are confident, then you can go for the test B instead. :specs:

Thanks AELITH!

I am still inexperienced, just passed the June board exam. and like so many others I too have tried applying to hospitals and even clinics but got the same line over and over again. "We'll just call you in there's any vacancy..." :crying2:.

Anyway, one of the reasons why I'm also considering a consultancy firm is because they promise to hold reviews and provide us with all the materials that we will need. I know I can purchase the 4 books recommended but I find it difficult to review at home. Being a wife, and a mom it's just...difficult hehehe... need to cook, need to spend time with son, need to spend time with hubby when he comes home, etc. But hubby's 100% supportive with all my decisions so he understands that I have to attend reviews outside. And as of the moment I've read somewhere in this thread (not quite sure if here or another one) that only agencies or consultancy firms hold their own reviews.

Mostly that's what I'm after.

But you're right. DIY is much more practical and I know it is "do-able". Hehehe after following this thread for days now I think I know how am I going to proceed if indeed I decide to do it on my own. Especially you, I have learned a lot from you with your earlier posts. Thanks! :yeah:

I will continue to follow this thread. Will also post my progress when I decide already as to how to go about this QLD-CAS thing.

Thanks again!

thanks again guys, you just don't know how happy i am about this thread, so many helpful infos!

sorry but i still can't pm yet. so i'll just answer the following people here

to nykhouston2003

thank you so much for your pm, for informing me about the 2 consultancy firms. well, about asnc-ansm (i’m allowed to say it, right? sorry in advance if i am not) i think they are legitimate. because i’ve had my relatives there check if the owner (poc) is indeed a registered migration agent. he is. and his business name is registered there with what is equivalent to our securities and exchange commission here in the philippines. his photo is even shown on its website. i’ve also done my homework on him here, that they are also registered with our securities and exchange commission. also, they do not require us to pay them in cash, rather to deposit payments in a bank. we just have to show them the deposit slip. their package costs about 9,500 aud. i guess you already know the inclusions.

my hubby and i tried to compute and see how much we are gonna save if we do it on our own. let’s just say that we had allowed for a big amount for my miscellaneous expense (a bit of shopping money, transpo/bus money etc. not to mention that i will be renting a whole apartment for myself) and we still came up with a savings of roughly 3,800-4,000 aud. the thing is, we are thinking of going altogether (the three of us). so if that should happen then i guess we will incur more expenses but at least we will be together in one apartment. it’s like we are gonna have a taste of things to come. me working (or should i say going to my clinical placement :coollook:, and my son and hubby just staying at home, waiting for me :chuckle). anyway, if we decide the latter then i’m sure all of our expenses will almost be equal (if not more than) to that if we decide to sign up with the consultancy firm. but for singles like you i presume, if you diy then you'll be sure to save 4000 aud, even more if you really spend you pocket money wisely.

by the way, what review materials are you using? just the four books or do you have access to review materials from other agencies?

thanks again nyk!

to unadunad

when in june? i have yet to take the ielts too and i’m also scheduled this june. good luck to us!

yes thank you for the update. when i attended the orientation of the consultancy firm that i mention, the owner said that before, if one passes all the written parts of the challenge test then next would be the 1-day clinical but now, he said, we already have the option to choose whether we would like to undergo the 1 day or the 4 week (160 hrs) clinical placement. that’s good news for me because i don’t think i am confident enough to prove my skills in 1 day. :o

so you’re doing everything by yourself too? what are your review materials?

thanks again everyone! best of luck to all of us! hope that someday soon i’ll bump into one of you guys in qld! maybe we can hit the beach or something :yeah::yeah:
