My A&P from LPN school did not count and I needed to test out taking the 6 credit Excelsior exam.I also tested out in Microbiology as well. My LPN school was long ago.

Today, most LPN schools are the first year of an ADN Program and those credits do count.

I've been confused then. I thought it was your LPN stuff they didn't accept. I think we all have to retake the A&P part.

Oh man was I confused too! TCN came to my house and gave me all the info and I dont know what I was thinking, but its much clearer now!! I just ordered a and p study guide off ebay and Im gonna try to take that test in December, YAAAY!! Im so excited!! Thanks for sticking with me with your responses through all of my ignorance :)

groannn, ok I am officially certifiably nuts. after yearssss of indecision I am finally going for my RN degree. actually LPN to BSN w/ ISU. using TCN... studying A&P currently..and will be for a while...but at least I FINALLY did something about it (my career). just wanted to let y'alll know that another one bit the dust. ;->

Nah, it's not ignorance. At least not in a bad way. :) They aren't like "You get X credits for this LPN class and Y for that one" but you just don't have to take fundamentals, pharmacology, etc and then you can test out of the 4 challenge classes whereas the traditional BSN students can't do that.

Give yourself a good pat on the back. Congrats on your decision.

Hello all! I have been sitting here, reading this thread for like 2 1/2 hours! I feel like I know everyone so well now :wink2:

I'm a somewhat new LVN, graduated from a school in the OC in March. TCN came out and talked to us as a group, but I was over class that day and daydreamed the entire time. I moved to Sacramento about a month ago, and have been trying to figure out what route to take to get my RN. I remembered ISU and wanted info, and lo and behold, TCN contacted me.

I have a meeting with the rep on Monday. I'm not going to sign anything. Testing out seems easy enough. And I'm sure I can get all the materials needed for MUCH cheaper than TCN. I think ISU is a good way to go.

Is there anyone in the Northern Cali area doing this? I'd LOVE a study buddy!

Howdy and welcome to the thread. I too live in Northern California (central valley). I graduated from ISU back in 2007 and now am on faculty for community health nursing N450. I don't give out my name for obvious reasons, but if you have trouble finding a preceptor, let Kim Cook know, and she knows how to get in contact with me. Let her know I'm her friend from Folsom Prison.

Congrats on graduating :D and being on faculty! Wow! Thanks for the info, I'll keep that in mind when I get the the preceptor stage. Did you work at Folsom? Are you a community nurse now?

College algebra is my first exam. I just started studying 2 days ago!! I decided to do that one first because I knew it was gonna be the hardest for me. I figure while Im fresh in it Ill get it out of the way, instead of waiting until Im feeling burnt out. Wish me luck :)

Oooh good luck! I think I may start with a couple easy courses. Builds confidence and whatnot. Then once I know I can do it, I'll tackle the harder ones, like college algebra.
