Oooh good luck! I think I may start with a couple easy courses. Builds confidence and whatnot. Then once I know I can do it, I'll tackle the harder ones, like college algebra.

I took Intro to psych and passed and it did give me a confidence boost. So don't give up hang in there.........

Quick question for everyone... do you feel like this way of getting your degree is unorthodox?

I was having a conversation just now with a friend who's also an LVN. He's getting ready for an ADN program. I told him about CLEPing out of pre-reqs and the ISU program, and he told me my way of doing things was unorthodox. I don't think it is, I think its actually more difficult and in the end we'll all be way more independent because we did this program. Just wondering what your thoughts were.

Speaking from the point of view of obtaining my ADN from Regents (now Excelsior) my BSN from ISU distance and my MSN-FNP this coming May from USI distance, and eventually one day my DNP--all of which have been through distance education or what some might consider "unorthodox" I have noted a few things over the last 20 years or so. First, there are always going to be people who subscribe to the pay-more because its always better and work-harder, not smarter philosophy. Second, there will always be people who are unable to grasp the integrity and quality of education through alternative routes through non-traditional pathways.

Third, there will always be the "flatters", those who consider the world not really round. This is what I call those who cast dispersions on alternative pathways without looking at the evidence, such as the evidence used by top nursing schools in the country who now have distance education programs such as Johns Hopkins and Duke University.

Did you work at Folsom? Are you a community nurse now?

No, I always joke with Kim that I got her name from my cell mate while an inmate at Folsom. I volunteer as a public health nurse for a police department. My gig is keeping the officers healthy and community outreach programs that target hypertension and diabetes awareness.

I also say good luck. Tell me how it is. I am thinking of taking that one next. I am doing the Interpretation and Analysis of Literature right now. I have scheduled the exam for the middle of December.

Yay! Congrats :yeah:

Alright... so I just finished my meeting with the TCN rep. Man, he's good at making everything sound so enticing! But I got my list of courses. Told him I was probably going to try and get most courses done at a CC but I would think about it. Whats interesting, is that IF I were to go completely through TCN then ISU, the total cost would be almost exactly the same as my LVN program. And whats even funnier is that I had been looking into West Coast University in Anaheim for my ADN and the cost of that is like $80k!

Time to start searching the web for modules :D

Yeah I found the cost a little hard to believe!

No preceptor.....I didn't know I needed on for that challenge exam. I was told if I need it I could....and it would go towards the NUR484 clinicals....is that not true?

No, you don't need a preceptor for 224 if you are taking the challenge exam. She might have meant to say proctor?

As I understand, no preceptor required for challenge exams or portfolios. As far as preceptor hours from a 200 level course going towards 484, I'm not sure how that would work, as this is one of your capstone courses.
