Indiana State University BSN students

Published

Here's a new sticky for students involved in online/distance BSN programs through Indiana State University. Enjoy!

Ok, here's what I got back on the question about information technology - they never really answered my questions, but I did find interesting that the minimum grade needs to be a "C" - and collegeboard says that a "50" is a C. This has been frustrating and eyeopening. They gave my phone number to The College Network so I could "get my questions answered" The College Network only wants to sell me books the representative has no idea one clep test from another. I'm disappointed and now am getting phone calls from TCN on my cell.

This is my email from ISU to my question -why is a 65 needed for this test and is an intro to computers class or Dantes intro to computers exam ok to satisfiy the requirement.

Phase I: Completion of general education and cognate courses required for the nursing major. Credit for these

courses may be obtained through a combination of transfer credit previously awarded from accredited

colleges/universities, courses completed in a traditional classroom setting or online, and/or successful completion of

equivalency examinations. Students prepare for these equivalency examinations through The College Network's

CLM program. Credits received from successful completion of the American Council on Education (ACE)-approved

equivalency examinations are then transferred to ISU.

Enrollment in ISU and the College of Nursing is not required for completion of Phase I; however, it is required prior

to progressing to Phase II. Students must complete the following ten (10) courses, or their equivalent, with a

minimum grade of a C or better, prior to enrolling into the College of Nursing:

ENG 101 & 105 Freshman Writing (6 credit hours)

CHEM 100 Chemistry (4 credit hours)

COMM 101 Intro to Communications (3 credit hours)

Information Technology (3 credit hours)

LIFS 274 Microbiology (3 credit hours)

MATH 102 College Algebra (3 credit hours)

PSY 101 General Psychology (3 credit hours)

SOC 101 Foundations of Sociology (3 credit hours)

PSY 266 Lifespan Developmental Psychology (3 credit

hours)

Other general education and cognate courses required for degree completion are:

ENG 305 Advanced Expository Writing (3 credit hours)

Foreign Language (6 credit hours)

HLTH 340 Statistics (3 credit hours)

LIFS 412 Pathophysiology (3 credit hours)

PE 101 Physical Education (2 credit hours)

Historical Studies (3 credit hours)

Literary, Artistic & Philosophical Studies (6 credit hours)

Multicultural Studies - U.S. Diversity (3 credit hours)

Multicultural Diversity - International Cultures (3 credit

Who specifically did you email at ISU?

I had a general phone # and email for the nursing dept. I received a reply from April B. So I've redirected my questions back to her.

You really need to talk to Kim C. or Marcia M. - I know that sometimes it is even out of their hands as it is up to the department who holds the class what they consider a minimum passing CLEP score - In this case it would be the Information Techonolgy department. Please don't give up for all the little speed bumps it really is a great program - I have made it through to my senior year - Yeah!!!!!!

I was thinking either them or Jeanine O. Could she help her out too? Kim is sometimes slow on emails if she's really busy and I've gotten a lot of emails from Jeanine regarding pre-req's, etc and she's really fast and friendly. I'm still sometimes confused about who does what sometimes (still first semester) so I'm not real sure about Jeanine's actual title.

Isn't April B. the TCN/ISU coordinator? When I received emails from her, she stated that I had to use TCN but when I spoke with someone else, I was told that I didn't have to use TCN but they weren't sure where else I would find the 4 CSM modules for phase II. I may be wrong, but my feeling after I spoke to April was that she was employed by TCN and placed in ISU vs the other way around.

A friendly reminder to please refrain from posting first & last names of ISU staff members- they may not want their names publically posted here. Please PM each other with first/last names if necessary.

Thanks!

I know she works for ISU but I think she's some sort of secretary. Just my personal experience but I've never really gotten good solid info from her so I would just talk to the other people mentioned. Kim C. and Marcia M. are always safe bets. The later being much faster with emails in general. The *fact* is that you do not need TCN so if she told you that it would really take away credibility from anything else she says.

Hi all,

I think 2 of the Phase 2 CSM are on sale on EBay right now. Mental Health and Adults 1. Check it out....http://www.ebay.com and type in The College Network.

That does look like them, last time they were on there they sat at about that price till a few hrs b4 then shot way up and sold for $150-$200.

That's them. It's the first 2 you need as well. I'd snag 'em if you need them!

Do you mean the Information systems and Computer Applications clep? I've been studying it for 3 days ---Its a nightmare ! Why does that one have to be the 65 needed? I'm getting discouraged. I emailed ISU about alternatives like an intro to computers class or the Dantes Intro to computers exam (both of these would be a lot easier than this test) Chapter one of the TCN module has over a hundred vocab words in it alone . I called and emailed on Friday--they said they'd get back to me.

Thanks for the info. I am currently studying for this exam as we speak, so if there is an alternative plz post it once you find out. However, I seem to be coming along pretty well in my studies wish me luck, P.S. has anyone taken the test and passed? If so how was it? any tips! :nurse:
