Here's a new sticky for students involved in online/distance BSN programs through Indiana State University. Enjoy!
Ok, I am having a tough time knowing where to start. I need all of my pre-req's and am going to go through ISU without TCN. They have ENG 107, PSY 101, CHEM 100 and 100L or higher level chem course, COMM 101, MATH 111 or higher, LIFE SCIENCES 231/231L and 241/241L or ATTR 210/210L and PE 220/220L, LIFE SCIENCES 274/274L. Do all of these have to be completed before admission and do they have equivalents for CLEP/DANTES?
I believe all of them have an clep/dantes or excelsior equivelent. I to am going this route. I need all the required pre rec's. I met with a TCN rep and went over all the info with them. They left copies of exactly what classes were needed and where I would take them. I did not sign anything during that meeting. I took 2 days to decide if I was going to go with them or not. When the rep called back and asked if I made a decision I politley told him yes and at this time I'm not interested in purchasing the modules through TCN. I started doing research and found most listed on different sites so I know I can do it on my own without having to spen 1,000's on TCN.

Honestly I think that's the best way to do it. You can always go back to them later if you decide to get the phase 2 modules from them and that class breakdown is awesome.

What do you mean by that class break down is awesome???? Are the study guides easy to follow? Can they be done without the CSM? I know it would be a little more work becuase you have to look up info your self.

The way ISU explained it to me was that, yes, I could do it without TCN but the 4 CSM's I would have to get from TCN because they can't be found anywhere else.

lol...the breakdown of classes that you need...the thing you mentioned from TCN is what I meant. I thought it was really convenient to have.
Hi,
Just wanted to make sure that everyone knows that 50 of your credits at ISU need to be upper level. 39 of these come from the nursing classes and that leaves 11 upper credits you need to transfer in. Pathophys, Statistics,Gerontology, etc from Excelsior are all examples of upper level exams. Dante Exam Tech writing with essay is also considered an upper level exam per the College Network's "Plan".

Hi guys-
To those of you out there with all the pre-reqs to complete---I finished Psych and Lifespan---there's what I found. I took the Clep Human Growth and Development for the Lifespan part, so I took 2 Clep's.
Both tests are relatively easy-take them both together and then right after that go for the Gerontology test. These 2 cleps overlap each other and after you study Psych you are half way through the Human Growth and Development test so you might as well get that one also. Then after these 2 you are now a third the way through Gerontology.
These tests are heavy on the "theories" Freud, Piaget, Vygotsky, Erickson, Jung, Rogers" also each kind of theory -cognitive, behavior, psychosocial and what each of them covers. The Human growth and development had none of those lifespan NCLEX questions - like what happens first sitting up alone or the pincher grasp, just theories.
I used the TCN module for Lifespan and the teachers edition (I found it on half.com for 75 cents) of Excelsiors textbook. For Psych I found a book - Psychology Made Simple by Alison Thomas-Cottingham, ISBN: 0-7679-1543-7. It was awesome, followed the test better than TCN , easy to understand, and cost me $12 at the local Barnes and Nobles. It has questions at the back of each chapter.
I have Gerontology this Thurs but that looks like just common sense (or just maybe it's because I'm old and can relate!) I took the practice test and got a 78 before I even read the book so I'm hoping for a easy pass on Thurs.

If I could get the CSM for phase II I would be really excited...has anyone seen those on Amazon? I looked but didn't see them.
