Here's a new sticky for students involved in online/distance BSN programs through Indiana State University. Enjoy!
Hello, everyone, I am trying to get info on the ISU, and have a question, just cannot find the answer. Can I take classes part time, or I have to take them just how they are listed by semesters, I am talking about nursing classes, I have noticed about GE courses, but nothing about nursing.
Hey everyone - I wanted to give you all a tip - If you don't have a scanner - get one. There is a lot of paperwork to send and faxing can get rather expensive - especially if you don't own a fax machine. Anyway I just got a Neat Receipts Scanner 3.0 and its the best. I can scan my documents to PDF and then email them to the School of Nursing -It is portable and small and looks about the size of a hole puncher and works great. Just a little tip - TTYL Linda :)

YES! That is the beauty of a Distance Program - you take them in order but you can take as many or as little as you want. Financial aide would be your only deciding factor - You have to go at least part time to qualify for Financial Aide.

Amen to this!!! We just had to replace our printer and we picked up a fax/scanner/printer combo at Staples for around $89. At $2.50 a page to fax from Kinkos it was well worth it! There's not really any significant difference in price between printers and combo machines anyway. Ours is a Brother. No idea what the model is but it's the cheap one at Staples. lol!
I fax almost everything except I just did my first scan today. I had to go to an AA meeting for Nursing in Mental Illness and we have to put the paper in the digital dropbox so I scanned it in. Go me!
Hey everyone! I am currently enrolled in Excelsior's LPN to ADN program... I'm wondering if the NC exams would transfer into ISU's LPN to BSN's program? I started looking through this thread to see if anyone else had the same question, but with 31 pages, it was taking way too long!
I am all the sudden feeling very uneasy about completing Excelsior's program.. On top of that, my work is really pushing for me to get my bachelor's. I work in education, so they don't really care what my bachelor's is in necessarily, I just thought this might be a good option.
My thought is that I complete as many NC exams as possible, transfer to ISU and complete the clinical portion and other general ed requirements....Plus this proves to my husband I'm not wasting the $1000 enrollment fee and the exams I've already taken through them. Does this make sense? I am going to email them directly, but everyone on this site is so good about responding quickly!

You would definitely need to talk to ISU directly about this. Clinicals go right along with the med-surg (and other) classes. It's a traditional nursing program with just the didactic online so you can't really just take all your bookwork then just do clinicals at ISU, kwim? Kim Cook would be the one to ask. Just call the dept of nursing and they should be able to connect you to her.
I would talk directly to ISU about it but a friend of mine had a similar situation and they did not accept any of her nursing credits. My friend had completed Excelsiors program and then failed the clinical, as so many do. She then started the ISU program and still had to take all of the same courses that I did. There are a few Excel. tests that they accept for gen. ed. requirements but I don't think they will accept the nursing courses.

ISu will have to decide what they will accept and what they won't. I transferred technically from another BSN program when my husbands job moved us out of state. ISU took a couple of my nursing courses but for the most part I too had to take the same classes as everyone else. They trasferred all of my general ed stuff - call them they are really cool and are willing to answer any question you may have. Good Luck!
Thanks everyone for your response.. I kind of assumed that it would be that way. It was just wishful thinking.
I am so nervous for the clinical for Excelsior and heard that our local hospitals here in GR, Michigan are not hiring Excelsior grads. Shame on me for not calling the local HR departments first.

Hi all,
It is great to see all the people interested in ISU.
I too have been working on my GE credits. I started with none and have completed 11 class requirements by testing out. I plan on having all my non nursing classes completed before beginning Phace 2. I have found College Algebra too difficult to CLEP out of, so I am enrolling in an on-line CC course this sumer. I also feel that I need to take an actual Chemistry class at my local college to get a good understanding. ISU requires a 4 credit Chem class not a 3 credit so be careful when you are fulfilling that requirement. I will leave Spanish to do in my summers once enrolled. IVY CC has an on-line Spanish program as well.
How is everyone fulfilling their Information Technology class? ISU's CLEP requirement for that states that you must get a 65 or higher which is a fairly high score!
Happy Easter!
