Here's a new sticky for students involved in online/distance BSN programs through Indiana State University. Enjoy!
Can Someone Tell Me The Process Of Taking The Test For Required Ge If You Dont Go Through Tcn? How Do U Get A Test Date? Where Does The Results Go? I Want To Cut Out The Middleman. I Also Was Wondering If Anyone Has Graduated From Isu Online Rn Bsn?
It depends on which GE credits you are testing out of and where you will be testing. For instance, if you are testing out of Lifespan Development, you will be taking a CLEP test, CLEP test centers can be found at www.collegeboard.com which is the CLEP home page. I took my CLEP tests at my local Ivy Tech college. If the test you will be taking will be an Excelsior test you will go to https://www.excelsior.edu/ which is Excelsior's home page and has listings for their test sites and tells you what their fees are. The middle man is The College Network (TCN) who will try to sell you materials to study for these same tests. Not that their study materials are bad but you will pay thousands directly from them and can often find the used or new materials on Ebay for little of nothing...or you can study your own materials on the subject and then test. I have taken four four CLEPS and did not study anything, just went and took the test. They are hard but you only need a 50-52% score to get credit and you can try twice.
When I last talked to someone at ISU they had had less than 10 graduates so far but there should be a slew coming up. The program just started a few years ago and it takes 2-3 years to complete it all.
Are you enrolled in the program yet?
Hope this helps...

Hello everyone! I am starting phase II. I was wondering if anyone had CSM modules they would like to sell or copy? I heard that you can copy them from the school but havent heard back from ISU to check if this is true. If anyone has information it would be appreciated. Thank you!
They are available at the ISU library to be copied but I have not found anyone willing to do that. Some people have them but they are apparently thick and would be difficult to copy. I simply cannot afford to buy them, the College Network wants to charge me $635 each since I didn't buy the rest of the study guides from them. Right now, I am just going over the objectives in each one and studying from the texts they use.
I am almost finished with phase II, I will be completing my gen eds this summer and testing out of 224, then taking the final course NURS324 this fall.

Same as with TCN...find a testing center and call them. You have to do that regardless of what materials you use to prepare. CLEP, Dantes and Peirson (sp?) all have websites. Not sure of the URLs offhand but I googled and found them.
Yes people have graduated from ISU. I think it's just one or two classes so far though because the online option is pretty new still.
Hi, As to scheduling tests---this is what I've been doing so far. For the excelsior college tests (anatomy, chem, micro, gerntology etc) i registered on the excelsior college website, look around it you will see a link to schedule exams. I paid them 200 for each one, waited 2 days then went to the pearson vue (same as your nclex) site and scheduled the test. I took the test in the same room as my NCLEX and got my printout of the grade and credit at completion of the test. I'm taking my first 2 CLEP tests this week, psych, growth and development. I went to the collegeboard website (just google up CLEP) found the list of test centers, called my closest one (30 mins away) paid them 25 for their fee and 65 for the test and scheduled it. I will continue to take the 18 classes that I can test out of , when done I'll reguest my transcripts be sent to ISU. I have been using TCN modules I bought off ebay and also looking on the excelsior college bookstore list of textbooks they use, and buying them on half.com. I've also found that my local bookstore has good "review" books on a lot of the subjects and they are just enough to not be overwheming but still pass the test easily. Hope that was what you needed to know.
Thanks for the great information yal. I have until wednesday to cancel my contract. I think I will. Another question, when purchasing the modules on ebay, what are the key words to use? I was trying to find the modules on there.
I've been looking for the World Religions one and I either type in "College Network" or "College Network World Religions"
here is the link....
They have a World Religion one listed!! (Chaxanmom)
