Hi,

I have heard the Statistics exam is one of the harder ones. I have been working at all my prereq for the last 3 years and have decided to take traditional long distance classes for the following...Algebra and Statistics For Chemistry, I will be taking a traditional summer class at my local college as this needs a Lab component and it is a 4 credit class. I have tested out on all the rest of the prereq (I started with no credits). I do have Tech Writing left and will take the DSST Exam but I have already taken ECE's English Comp with essay, so I am well prepared.

Good Luck,

Brenda

Are you choosing to take chemistry at local college. From what I understand you can take the clep for it for 4 credits. I do not think the lab portion is needed for ISU.

Hello Everyone!

Newbie here! An LVN in Northern California, Bay Area. I have read many of the posts on this site for a while now, but decided just now to register.

I am also doing the LVN-BSN program and am still in Phase 1, I have the following left:

1. analysis of literature-will test out of

2. info. systems-will test out of

3. anat/phys-will take at local cc in fall or maybe not, see below

4. micro-will take at local cc this summer

5. chem-will test out of

6. pathophys-will take at isu

7. public speaking-will take this summer at local cc

8. gerontology-will take at isu

9. american history-take in fall at local cc or maybe test out of

Currently taking Ethics, West Religions (took east in 2000), Technical writing online through a local cc. This local cc offers a lot of the classes for Phase 1 online-for those of you who can't study on your own and need a classroom structure like me. (Took me a year to just get through one TCN book and realized I needed someone to push me through it, why I decided to take most of them at a local cc or online through a local cc, which in my opinion (online local cc classes) are harder than regular classroom, with homework due almost everyday). If anyone wants a list of the classes they offer, let me know. Also, for those of you in my area, I know of a local cc that does not require pre-req's for anat, phys, chem and micro. If you want info on that as well, let me know too.

I was wondering if anyone knows if ;

-on TCN pre-req page, it says anat/phys (6) units, but the anat/phys class I took was (4) units, do I have to take another anat/phys class just to make it (6) units?

-on the ISU nursing student handbook, it states that you can only have 2 repeat classes thats outside of nursing and 1 repeat for nursing classes. Do they consider a "w" withdrawal of an outside of nursing class and then taking the class over and passing it the next time with a "c" or above a "repeat" of a class, thats added into the 2 allowable repeats?

Because I "w" in Dev Psych and was wondering if this is going to count against me if I passed it right afterwards with an "A". I also "w" in micro, I actually "w" that whole semester because of personal issues I was going through at the time and the univ. granted it (it was a retroactive w). During that semester, I was taking those classes.

Please let me know, because then I shouldn't even bother applying and taking those 9 classes, if they're going to count those "w" as repeats and should just focus on applying to other lvn-rn programs.

Thanks for all your help! Sorry for the long post.

Hi,

I don't feel I can CLEP out of Chemistry. It has been almost 30 years since high school for me. I also don't want to waste time. I spent alot of time trying to teach myself Algebra in order to CLEP only to find out I cannot score anywhwere close to passing on practice tests.

Ok, soooo Understandable. I have also been out of school so long and afraid of classes......lol but know I have to nip that fear in the bud if I want my bsn. Good luck.

So if you choose not to clep out of certian classes.... ones after phase I say the upper level ones as mentioned in OP ie. pahto, geron and so on. Can you take them as blackboards through ISU. Indie is this what you are doing?

My courses are more than 2 years old. Does ISU not accept courses taken a certain amount of years ago?

Thanks.

I am not sure Tracy...I am doing all my non-nursing courses before I enroll in ISU except Spanish and Phy Ed. I am working full-time and cannot cut back because of health insurance so the more I get done before I enroll, the easier it'll be for me.

You're fine. They took courses of mine that were more than 10 years old. :)

I know 11 of the courses need to be completed prior to enrolling into phase II. But I'm wondering if it will be easier to incorporate the upper level into the nursing courses. I'm going to try to test out of at least 5 or 6 of initial classes, but was thinkin it would be easier for me to take 1 nursing class and one upper level class per semester 1. because I also have to work f/t to 2. I want to be able to qualify for financial aide if its available (does any one knowif it is?)

Hi Tracy,

I know patho for sure you can, if you look at indstate's sched online and narrow it down in the drop menus by blackboard classes and then chose the subject 'life science' what patho is under in indstate, there is a patho blackboard class there. geron, now, I am not sure about. I'm probably gonna have to test out of it (which I heard is real easy) or take an abnormal psych class online through my local cc.

I know indstate is a regular state univ and so yes, they do have govt financial aid funds, this is another reason why i chose to do this program was because of the govt financial aid with low interest rates, not to mention the PERKINS LOAN where you can cancel (NOT HAVE TO PAY BACK) a portion of it each year you work full-time as a nurse. I took out some perkins loans when i went to sf state, and was able to cancel 15% of it already because i worked full-time 1 year alreadyas an lvn (I'm a new lvn, graduated in 06). each year u work f/t as a nurse they cancel 15% of the loan.

if i were to go to some technical school that didn't offer govt loans, only private ones, like unitek and univ of phoenix, youre looking at interest rates in the 20%? I believe, not sure, but I know its high. if you take out a govt loan, the interest rates are fixed at 5% now-why i like the idea of indstate.
