In the spirit of recent optimism, what is your true love?

I have immensely enjoyed the positive threads started by our members, so I thought I would pose this question to y'all.

I will share with you that my first true love is a bit unusual. As many of you know, my mother passed away several years ago. My youngest brother was only 10 when she passed. He had always been a very intelligent child, but at the age of 7, he announced that he wanted to be a Pediatric Cardiologist. I had no idea where he got the notion of what a pediatric cardiologist was, or if he even knew what kind of doctor he was talking about. You can only imagine my surprise when he rattled off surgeries like the repair of Tetralogy of Fallot, or the management of PDA. The kid FLOORED me with his knowledge and his capacity to actually comprehend how the heart works. I will never forget the comment he made to me after we opened my anatomy book and reviewed the surgery. He said, "Sister, this isn't rocket science. It is just that the tubes and valves aren't working right. Moving on, what can you teach me about the transposition of the great vessels?" WOW! So my baby brother is my first love. As I have stated in other posts (and just because I am so stinking proud of him, I can't help but say it again), he is graduating from Yale in a couple of weeks. He will continue his learning at Stanford in the fall, pursuing a dual degree in medicine (which I have tried to talk him out of, but failed) and in International Medical Law. Ultimately, he would like to lobby for better health care for the pediatric population in third world countries.

My second love, (much to his chagrin) is my hubby. I was not prepared to meet someone of his character at the time that I did. I had been divorced for about 8 months. I was SO not looking to date. GAWD! I would rather have 15 enemas in succession before delving into the dating scene again! I was attending a mandatory training for my disaster team, and I was post call. I was so freaking tired that I just wanted to get on with training and get home to bed. This unassuming guy with a quick joke and an easy way about him started lecturing. I immediately took notice, and was impressed by his knowledge. However, I was much too tired to stand in line at the end of training to give my thanks to him and introduce myself. When I was walking out of the building, I felt a tug on my elbow and turned around to see what irritation was standing between me and the promise of my long awaited soft pillow. It was the instructor wanting to introduce himself to me. He was easy to talk to and after all of the team members left, I found myself completely engaged in conversation...thoughts of my soft pillow fell by the wayside. I married this man, and have never been happier.

My third love is my profession. I strongly believe it to be an honor to care for patients. I take my profession seriously, as we all do, and still continue to be in awe regarding the fact that I can impact a patient's life for the better day after day. It still seems unreal to me when I remember all of the patients and families that I have cared for. I am sure you all must feel the same way. Isn't it amazing?

I would really like to hear your story. What is your true love? What makes it special to you? What is the most poignant moment that you can remember in your personal or professional career?

My first Love is Jesus my Lord and savior.

Second Love is nursing.

My first love is Jesus my Lord and Savior also. I do not know how I could make it through nursing school at 50 () if it was not for the Lord.

My second loves, notice the plural, are my two great nephews. They are wonderful, both are so very, very smart. It is amazing to watch those bright eyes discovering the world. The oldest one, he is two, has a habit of picking up something and say "dis work??", then he proceeds to make it work. They are both so very precious to me and I thank the Lord everyday for bringing them into my life. I was not blessed with the pleasure of having a baby, so these two little ones are my babies.

My third love is nursing. Ironcially I tried to avoid loving nursing. When I graduated from high school I wanted to be a nurse, just did not want to go back to school :). So, I started working for the phone company, it paid the bills, but there was a void. It's like I kept getting this feeling that there was something else, something I was supposed to be doing that I wasn't. Then, voila, the light bulb came on. This is something you have always wanted to do and tried to excuse your way out of it. Once I woke up to that dream that would not go away it was on.... So here I am, at 50, getting ready to start nursing school in January and finally getting around to fulfilling my dream.

There is another love, he is about 6'2" and has touched my soul, but that is another story. Be Blessed!!!

My true love is my son. I never knew it was possible to love someone so much until I held that boy in my arms. I would jump into a lake, run through a fire, do whatever it takes to keep him safe. Nothing else comes close to that kind of love. Really, he is the #1 problem I have with working. Most of the time it's not that I don't like my job, it's that I'd rather be home with him.

Maybe some will look down on me for this... but in second place is tie between my step-daughter and husband. They have both been part of my life for 10+ years. My husband and I have had some serious problems lately, and it may not have a happy ending. However, unlike my first marriage, I do believe he is a good friend. Just possibly, bot a good spouse.

Enough of that though... happy thoughts. For material things I like money. I used to work hours upon hours of OT before my son was born- more for the money than anything else. I can't bring myself to do that as much anymore.

Not only is Jesus my (and others) first love, we are his first love as well

I'm now a canesdukegirl "groupie." You rock, girl!

My true loves are my hubby, kids, animals, motorcycles, and learning/education/books. In that order.....

Animals used to come first before I was married (can it really have been TWENTY years ago that I got married to my soul mate???). And my kids were brought into my life 14 years after marrying my hubby. I thought about going into working with animals on a daily basis, but decided that I didn't want animals to become an everyday assembly line for me.

Riding my bike (Yamaha VStar Classic 1300)...Well now that's just pure thrill and freedom....

And I will be a lifelong learner. I bet nursing will turn into my next love...It's been pulling at me for YEARS!

Awesome thread.

Sheesh at 60 I've had so many:lol2:

I'd have to say one of my true loves is my home state of Oregon and I miss it. I love driving around the state and seeing all it has to offer from the ocean, the mountains, the high plains...all of it...welll I don't miss the rain:uhoh3:. I love the food, fresh salmon and halibut and a whole host of one of a kind restaurants.

Another true love has been outdoor activities that I've done in the past, unfortunately infirmities and finances have put a major damper on them.

Riding dressage

Sailboat racing

Downhill snow skiing on cross country skis or any downhill skiing

Owning a heart dog and competing in events

Photography - recently had to sell all my DSLR equipment to pay bills:crying2:
