Can we have an unofficial policy where all inappropriate NETY threads are immediately reported to the moderators for breaking TOS? The recent NETY thread was closed as I was typing a response that included a request for people to not buy into the poster who was a new member on post #2 and was insulting people and therefore I decided must have been trolling. In that post I was also about to request that the moderators close the thread. Before I hit send, the thread was closed and very appropriately I will add.
Edit:
NETY stands for "Nurses Eat Their Young."
Like all topics at AN, some are hotter and more emotional then others. We ask that posters abide by the terms of service to which everyone agrees when they join.We ask that threads stay on topic and if you want to stray off topic, to please start a new thread.
Sometimes its better to just ignore a thread if you know its a hot bottom item for you.
Some of these threads end up being like car accidents: gruesome, but everyone going past has to slow down and look.

The problem is not that a NETY is started. It's the bad behavior people give themselves permission to indulge in in response to the OP. NETY is one of thousands of 'nursing issues' that frequently come up, it's legitimate. People bashing each other is not 'caused' by an OP, we always have a choice in how we respond.
What an appropriate unofficial idea!I don't think necessarily that people who post here are trolling; some come on here, don't browse, then post with a chip on their shoulder.
*shrugs* Some haven't ever found a professional message board and have NO idea how this one operates, or have no idea of netiquette, or heck, they bypass reading the TOS altogether.
I think this is exactly it. I don't think that people are trolling, necessarily, but are new to message boards, or new to PROFESSIONAL message boards, and don't seem to realize there is a unique culture in every message board community, and it's best to tread lightly until you get an idea of that culture.
OK, I read the dumb NETY thread. I had previously ignored it when it first popped up. My impression? It's a poster who started a new identity, has an axe to grind with Green Tea and Ruby Vee, and started the thread to bait them. It's most likely someone who has sparred with them on previous threads.
I like this site a lot, I spead a lot of time reading stuff here, but really! Some people need to get what's called a life!

AKA a troll. The comments by the OP were getting worse and worse. I took it seriously at first, but then realized that this was someone with a chip on their shoulders and out to personally attack people.
I happen to think a good rule would be that brand new posters no be able to start threads for a while. Example: I post on a Catholic forum. Over and over again they get a brand new poster open a thread about masturbation, asking for help about his addiction to it, or wanting to discuss it in some way, yada yada. Immediately a bunch of people take the bait and the thread goes on and on. It's ridiculous. From my perspective, it's obvious that some immature idiot is having a little fun with some of the pious folk over there. It makes the forum look pretty silly and trivializes spirituality in my opinion.
