I haven't posted in a long long time. I started out as a new LPN 5 years ago. My 1st job was in a LTC facility. I loved my job when I started.. We had staff and equipment and life was good... Then after my first year they left me on a 40 bed unit with a med pass by myself with 2 cnas.
Needless to say after 4 years working like that the daughter of one of my residents brought me in an application for the place she worked (she's a nurse too) well I applied.. I went through 3 interviews and got the job. I floated for a couple months and now I'm in the cardiology department.. I like the MD and NP I work for and the other people in the office.
I don't go home crying everynight.. I don't get stuck at work for an extra shift anymore!
I don't get screamed at by random MD's anymore (got lots of that on 3-11)
I have every weekend off and holidays!!!
I'm losing weight because I'm not so stressed and I'm not eating at 1am..
I get to see my family and spend time with them!
I even tried doing the MD office fulltime and the LTC parttime for the past year... I quit the LTC 2 weeks ago and I couldn't be happier....
I was called a traitor by alot of people I worked with at the LTC after I put my notice in....
But too me this nursing move was worth it...
Go ahead and call me a traitor... I dont care...
I got my life back and I couldnt be happier!!!!!! :)
To betray someone you have to default on an obligation. The name-callers are trying to convince you that you owe it to them to stay in a soul-crushing job because they feel stuck there. Who are they kidding.
You put in five years. Now it's time to move on to something you and your family can live with. Congrats on finding such a wonderful opportunity.
Good for you. :)
I think you brought a smile to everybody here. We work to live, not live to work. Sometimes we can enjoy what we do and even pick up a few lasting friends at work, but as for the rest? They can be cut from the line and let float away... I always say, "Well, there's more where that one came from" -- which has to do with the whole idea of letting people fall off my radar when I need to.
LTC nurse here..No you aren't a traitor! Those saying that are probably seething that you got the stress taken off you, get weekends and holidays off.
I'm trying my hardest to get out of where I am now. Same as you, things were "perfect" when I started, but now things are going down the toilet and I don't want to be flushed with the rest of them :)
I check the want ads daily. Hopefully, I'll be lucky enough to land a doc office job.
Wish you the best..glad to hear you are so happy in your new job. (hate you!! sooo jealous!! Just kidding I don't hate you..but I am sooo jealous :)
Congrats to you! Glad you are happy!!
Don't feel bad for switching jobs!! In September, I left a MD office to take a elementary school nurse job---the schedule and hours are EVEN better than MD office (2 months for summer-woohoo!)
Do what makes YOU happy...that's all YOU need to worry about!!
Sorry to be frank, but they're jealous!! If they were given the same opportunity or would step out and seek advantages at other facilities, they'd do the same.... I know I did. First job was LTC-a classmate told me about an opening at a neurology office where she also worked and shazam!!!
If you don't mind me asking...was there a big decrease in pay? I think happiness is worth more than money, but are you still able to pay your bills and everything?
I can still pay my bills... It was only a 50 cent pay cut when I moved from LTC to the MD's office...
I still have the option for overtime at the MD's office too!

Good for you! Just ignore the critics--you need to decide what is best for you.
