Do you ever have those days where you wake up completely frustrated? I normally do like my job, but today I felt frustrated and half convinced myself to apply to PetSmart and cuddle kittens all day while working my way through school. Hahaha.
I took my dogs to the vet today & thought "I should have become a vet tech... hanging with animals all day sounds fun!" Then I realized that I would only want to be around animals like my own...well behaved! You get terribly behaved animals just like you get terribly behaved patients
...and awful owners instead of irritating family members/visitors.
I was a vet tech before I was a nurse. The pay stinks, you help euthanize animals on an almost daily basis, many owners suck and are mean, animals misbehave.I tell people I'm going to be a barista on bad days...it's probably too frustrating too though.
I bartended at a party hostel in another country to get a free bed for six months. Seriously the most fun I've ever had in my life!! And you get to dance behind the bar while mixing drinks. I probably would have stayed indefinitely if I didn't have to come back for nursing school. 20-something travelers never complain about your quality of service if the food and booze are cheap.
Being a barista seems like a whole different can of worms. Baristas complain about whiny, nit-picky customers like AN nurses complain about whiny, nit-picky patients, lol.

I've seen people throw hot coffee. Nope, I'd rather not get burned.
My go to is that I should've become an accountant.
I couldn't volunteer at pet-adoptions. I would be immediately suspicious of a potential adopter, dubious about their ability to take good care and love this animal the way it deserves and needs. Then, I would want to adopt all the animals myself.
Wouldn't work.
This is probably what would happen to me. I'd be on that hoarding show (if it's still even on?) for all the animals I could manage to pack into a tiny apartment.
Not a PetSmaet, but a Hallmark store...
Funny, there's another current post now talking about nurses starting up their own businesses. If not to start/own my own tearoom business, I'd like to hostess one. Or be connected with a gift/card store.
Years ago, there was a Hallmark Gift store really close to me. Rows and rows of greeting cards, perfumed candles, delicate figurines, pottery and other knick-knacks, balloons, party fare, gourmet candies, holiday-themed items, etc. Y'all know the kind of store.
Ahhh, RETAIL THERAPY - I'd escape there for hours when I was stressed out. Just the smell of the fragrances as I came through the door was a such a relaxant/mood elevator. I always bought something so they stopped following me around like a suspected shoplifter after a while.
Who could be mean or nasty in such a pleasant environement???

Well it depends on if they have sales quotas. There's a reason they were following you around, and it's not because they like feeling like stalkers.
I do agree though, those stores always make me feel relaxed. When I'm home, I have at least three candles lit. It puts me in my happy place. :)

We had three obviously pregnant kitties dumped at our farm years ago. They had their litters within a week of each other and we had 16 kittens to cuddle with! OMG, that was sooo much fun! Yep, we kept them all, and paid our vet to set aside a whole day to spay/neuter the whole bunch (19 cats). They're now 13-15 years old. We're cat people here
