If your school is closed re COVID19, what is your role

Updated:   Published

I’ve been thinking about what our role will be if DHS does call for school closure. I was thinking we could create a screening tool that would identify higher-risk families and then call those families with instructions and education. Questions could include recent travel, symptoms, contact with others, etc. Families could fill this out online, so we could go old school and just call every family and administer the survey via phone. I am setting up a Google Voice account, so that I can call families from my cell phone without them having access to my person numbers (as we would be working from home in the case of a school closure).

We will coordinate communications from top down (CDC -> local DHS -> our school)

What else!?

We're done here. I'm just getting ready to lock up and go home. They announced yesterday we'd be closed for two weeks. I had to scramble to get the kids with catheters rotated through to have them removed (fortunately they were all in school today).

The governor has just asked my states schools to close next week. We have a meeting after school to figure out what that means to us hourly staff that can't really "work from home". Kids are excited, I'm not so sure...

We were just notified we are closing for 3 weeks. Students are out, but staff have to work. I'll probably be doing paperwork and entering stuff into the computer. This is crazy!

Same here, though we are unsure when we’re reopening. I’ve made up bags of ibuprofen, Tylenol & tums that I’m putting outside my door so staff won’t be banging on my door telling me they need it. I have no plan to screen staff, take temps, etc because I’m not putting myself at risk. I have a window on my door. Can’t wait to say “go to the doctor if you feel sick” through the door 300x. My principal has access to my office but my chair is 6 feet from the door so he doesn’t have to breathe on me for us to talk.

I am in WI and our Governor mandated all K-12 schools close by Wednesday at 5pm until April 6th. Our Superintendent will be having meetings with other local Supers and let us know the plan on Monday. I am hourly and not sure if I will be getting paid. I do have a PRN job that I can probably pick up some hours at. I hate not knowing!!

We just finished Spring break and will be closed this next week. At this time I am not required to report to work but was told that could change. I could get so much paper work done sitting in a quiet office ?

I got the news today that we only come in tomorrow then “work from home.” I’m in IL and our governor is shutting schools, bars, & restaurants down. I’m trying to figure out ways to work from home...so if anyone has ideas of things I can do to “prove” I’m working please hit me with those.

Maybe some of your sick students can stop by for a visit ?

Those parents are going to be in a very hard place. Are we going to devastate people financially in order to try to control the uncontrollable?

Not a decision that anyone has come to lightly...

We were on Spring break last week and today should've been our first day back. We are closed this week and they have not announced regarding next week (or after) that yet. Today they announced our big state assessment tests are canceled this year so you can kinda guess where that is going.

Meanwhile, today and tomorrow admin staff are in schools. That includes nurses... Wednesday the teachers and paras are supposed to join us on campus.
Our hourly staff are guaranteed pay through this week but no news for after that.
I have developed a tracking log for quarantined staff. I have called each of my regular clinic kids to ensure that they are healthy, have what they need and are stocked for meds and/or supplies at home. I am finalizing my state screening data. We do this anyway but usually not yet.
No idea what I will be doing the rest of this week.... or after that for that matter

We are closing starting tomorrow for up to a few weeks. I was told that I have to be on site in order to be paid...I have 3 kids at home 5, 8 and 11....I dont want to have to leave them home alone for a few weeks...

I am very organized and I literally have nothing to do. And I mean nothing...I even have my 6th graders Tdap and menactra vaccines from MIIC put in the computer.....so I'm just going to stare at my walls for 4 days.....
