I’ve been thinking about what our role will be if DHS does call for school closure. I was thinking we could create a screening tool that would identify higher-risk families and then call those families with instructions and education. Questions could include recent travel, symptoms, contact with others, etc. Families could fill this out online, so we could go old school and just call every family and administer the survey via phone. I am setting up a Google Voice account, so that I can call families from my cell phone without them having access to my person numbers (as we would be working from home in the case of a school closure).
We will coordinate communications from top down (CDC -> local DHS -> our school)
What else!?
our gov closed schools until march 27 and our school just announced we'll be "distance learning" until at least April 3.
this week is supposed to be my Spring break, but I feel like I've been working all week with how much I've been stressing.
they want me to come in on Monday so parents can pick up meds, and then we'll discuss my role from there.
any ideas on what to do as a work from home SN, let me know!! the admin is going rogue with messaging etc and not asking for my help in terms of what type of information goes out to families, so I think it's best if I work on my own projects.
I've still got meds in my clinic. But I will not take an epi-pen or inhaler from a student if it is their only one (as I also have stock Epi), so I know my kids are okay and the few I have in my office are for field trip packing. So we treated like Winter break since it was two weeks at the time.
Sent home supplies with a couple of my diabetic students last week, and my med kiddos are ADHD boosters that aren't great unless we are on the actual school schedule. Any PRNs I only have 3-5 pills of and families have more at home. I locked my med cabinet when I left.
But I emailed my boss today as our closure got extended to April 6th for sure and more likely is looking like April 27th and even beyond. Wanted to see if we should reach out to families for pick-up of meds since timetable extended and some reminders to refill any inhalers at home if needed and offer any help for families that might be hitting med refill roadblocks now.
But Admin wants to wait. Okay, I wait.
In the meantime, I'm working full time hours on our yearbook and going on conference calls - listened to one today from my state department of health specific for public health leaders. Took notes to share with my admin.
Been debating videoing a condom demo for the 7th graders since we will miss that class of health now.
Hello all. Our district announced today we are out indefinitely with this being our first week back from the Spring break. So far we are to screen and document potential virus-like symptoms with the cafeteria workers before they hand out breakfast and lunch bags for food pickup "at 6 AM,...daily." The teachers get to stay home and work online. I wish they would let us work on nurse stuff like state reports and immunization letters, and such at home. They do require all staff to check their emails frequently and sign in online 3 times each day! We will be paid our normal pay. Didn't mind a break but this is not what I pictured.
