If you make over 100k/year as a nurse

:yeah:What is your specialty?

how long have you been an RN?

and how many years have you been working?

Do you have a BSN or ADN?

I make $120,000 a year as a nurse practitioner in a derm clinic. 40 hours or less a week. So if you are interested in that kind of money, get out of the rat race of working overtime and weekend hours at the hospital!!

^^I like the sound of your job not because I think 100K is the end of the rainbow, but because it sounds like decent compensation for a specialty field and the number of hours/week you're putting in. I notice that your info says you have 15 years experience - whether this was as RN or NP, I assume that your experience played a part in you being able to get this kind of job under optimum conditions. i.e. Newbie NP's are probably likely to have to pay their dues someplace or other working long hours for a less before they can find a situation like yours.

Thankful for posters who have perspective! I used to think the "6 figures" was the top- only the very elite earn that much! Not any more- I teach 32 hrs and work 12-32 hrs in a Boston hospital. Yep. I do earn >100,000. But I have a husband in school, not working and appreciate this income big time. Oh, I do have a MSN, am OCN certified- duh by my screen name! I also have 26 years experience and a CNS. But, a lot of my colleagues in town with ASN and BSN's earn >100k by OT. Again, it's not cheap in Boston....

I make $100K plus per year

The best I ever did was somewhere in the 60s but that was working like 110 hours a week for an employer that paid overtime, with a second job thrown in. Not everyone gets high wages in high cost of living areas. Cheap labor is more the norm than employers would like the public to believe.

Not me but at my hosptital in SF Bay Area a new grad staff nurse on day shift working 40 hours a week starts at $98k not including weekend diff or holiday pay. The top of the pay scale workinging 40 hrs/ days makes $128,000. Pretty standard pay in the bay area with a very high cost of living. On my floor with aprox $50 RN's only 5 work full time most are 3-4 days a week.

Here is in the Northeast many nurses make over 100K- but take home less then 50K. My health insurance is $339 a week for a family plan alone.

You need to find Cheaper Insurance

You can find Insurance outside your companies policy

36/hr/week X 52/weeks = 1872hr/year

$100,000 / 1872 = $53.40/hr

Just to give you an idea how much per hour equals $100,000, without overtime. There are some nursing gigs that pay that kind of money; like agency.

I work on average four 12 hour shifts a week in an LTAC ICU. Because I'm on the weekend program.. I work fri, sat, sun,, and then I pick up an extra shift anywhere between monday and thursday.. I make a little over 100k a year. That's with insurance and benefits. I have six years experience.

I feel like I really lucked out with this job, and it is more than Ive ever made. It would be a little less if I wasn't doing the weekend option,, but I love working weekends.. no management! only a little crap to put up with.. it's almost like working nights.

And I am in Texas.
