For the last 21 years I've worked in a union hospital and the staffing was BAD and we heard all if the above quotes so unions aren't the answer to our problems. And what's up with the pizza...every crisis we got pizza. As if our butts weren't big enough..... When will the lassie that told me there was a line waiting for my job notice that it's no longer there?

Hardknox, I too work Union and it isn't the be all and end all particularly as far as staffing goes. A union is only as strong as its' members and if you don't have a militant membership you are literally throwing your money away. That is why I am so seriously considering going Agency. I have had enough of the ambush style tactics of our suits.

The unions want the same deal for everyone. I am not everyone!!!!!! I am myself and can offer incentives to get a better deal for myself.

Reading your replies makes me want to run down and give my Chief Nursing Officer a big, wet kiss!! She has too much respect and love for nurses to offer pizza. Instead, she'll offer a solution to the problem. Of course, she has developed a wonderful, supportive nursing department, and the culture at this hospital is warm and supportive, also. Bottom line: we don't have a staffing problem because no one leaves. Very fortunate!

Your replies also make me heartsick. Boy, we have such a long way to go!!
