I wonder why that on the boards, threads that are started with a negative twist (eg: new grads with attitude; the good/bad/ugly of US's; catty nurses; nurses who shouldn't be nurses) grow to multiple pages while threads with a positive twist (eg: amazing stories in nursing; why choose nursing; high school inquiries; etc) fall to the bottom of our screens with hardly a whisper.
Seems like we always have something to say or an opinion about something bad, but nary a positive thought or opinion related to what is good.
The repetitiveness of negativity is very disheartening. Those threads really bother me. Am I alone?
Any thoughts on that?
If all you hear is negative, you need to explore the boards MUCH more than you are. You are right; there is a lot to learn here. There are also alot of wonderful and helpful people who will love to help you on your way to being a nurse.BEGALLI,![]()
NO, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. IMAGINE WHAT THOSE OF US WHO ARE STILL IN SCHOOL THINK IN OUR HEADS AT TIMES
. ALL YOU HEAR IS NURSING THIS AND NURSING THAT, ADN THIS AND BSN THAT, NURSES EATING THEIR YOUNG, AND CNA'S THA....., A NEGATIVE THOUGHT HERE AND ANOTHER ONE THERE

ANYHOW, YOU LEARN A LOT FROM THIS SITE. I APPRECIATE IT AND AM ALWAYS HAPPY TO READ THE GOOD STORIES OR THE OTHERS IN THAT YOU CAN RELATE TO.
ON THE OTHER HAND, YOU WILL ALWAYS FIND PEOPLE WHO COMPLAIN ABOUT EVERYTHING NO MATTER WHAT PROFESSION THEY HOLD :chair: :chuckle

Hello SmilingBluEyes,
While expressing my unique opinion and view, I never said that I ALL I ever hear is negative. As I recall, the original post was about the majority and so on. I am truly sorry if you took it that way. If this place wasn't wonderful and helpful I probably wouldn't be here.......but I love it. :) About there being lots of people here to help me on my way to being a nurse.....have found plenty as well, thank you for the advice.
Thanks again for the welcome, have been around for 9 mths now
As for the uppercase letters, I apologize because I wasn't aware that it was offensive to you or anyone. I will never type in them again, so don't you worry about that.
Hope, that expressing or making comments are permitted without fear of repreimandment . Rather be safe than sorry on that one.
P.S. Also, I edited my signature and made it much smaller than before, maybe it will be better too.
Thanks again,
Jessica
FYI, all caps is considered YELLING on posting sites. Just a little ettiquette note...
I, for one love, the opportunity to indulge in a little good natured venting on this site. It's cathartic. If someone sees themselves in a vent, maybe they ought to take notice, because in real life they won't get as honest of feedback usually as they will on an internet site.
Take me, for example. In real life I'm good natured and non-confrontational. I'm learning the value of being more assertive with people, but it's certainly not second nature to me like it is with some people. I'm an extremely slow boil and always give people the benefit of the doubt.
But, in the anonymous safety of this forum, people can find out what I really think.
Please don't get defensive. My post to you was not meant to put you there, or to anger you in any way........
I was just pointing out that there is much positive to be gained here, if we look around. And those who are being "negative" are often venting, which is healthy. You know, we all have the option to ignore that which offends us here---and not participate in those threads that bug us most. We also have the right to ignore individual posters who offend us, too. So if you choose, you can ignore me .... :)
One more thing: posting in all-caps is considered poor "net-equette". It's also against TOS here. I have seen people be much harder on all-caps posters---much more mean and rude than I was with you. Honestly, I was being friendly in my request, not looking for a fight with you.
Have a good day.

Thank you for the information. I wasn't aware of its meaning. I really appreciate it :)
About the venting, I agree. It definetly releases stress and also you usually find someone that has gone through the same situation and offer advice or just have a good laugh afterwards.

Hi Jessica!
I wish I could say that honestly expressing opinion and comments are not going to get reprimands, flames, or heated discussion, but I'm sure you know that is not the case. Personal attacks are not permitted. But we all should be aware that we post at the risk of having it not recieved well by others.
As you may notice, that hasn't stopped me. :rotfl:

SmilingBluEyes,
I don't understand where you percieve my reply as being "defensive" or that it "angered" me in anyway. I can honestly say it is not the case. You will never see me fighting or getting angry at anyone. It is not my personality or style. I am actually a well-reserved individual, with a head full of unique opinions and views just like everyone else. I indeed was thanking you for your comments/concerns, and decided to answer the post :). After all, isn't that what most of us are here for? To be friendly, find support/friends, and guidance for those of us who are following your steps to becoming a nurse someday. At least that is my purpose here .
I chose not to ignore you, because you have done nothing wrong to me. Whatever anyone or everyone has to say to me I gracefully accept. Also, I would Never engage in any fighting or argumentative behaviour with anyone. It is not right.
Please accept my apologies, if I have came across as anything other than a friend to you and everyone else. I will keep that in mind for future posts, if any, as well. :)
Have a wonderful day
Jessica
I guess we can turn it around, too--to the flip side of the old coin. When someone "dares" to tell someone else something like " please don't type in all caps" she takes the risk of getting flamed back. My bad. :rotfl:Hi Jessica!I wish I could say that honestly expressing opinion and comments are not going to get reprimands, flames, or heated discussion, but I'm sure you know that is not the case. Fortunately, my Kevlar suit is donned and I have my fire extinguisher handy!
