:redbeatheOkay MCC hopefuls, we are under the 45 day mark. Hopefully within 30 days we will at least have our ranking!!:redbeathe

42 days until letter day.....how are you feeling?

hey.....if we do get in does anyone have an idea how much this stuff costs?*see my questions in red*

additional expenses to be met by the student are:

(1) a health history and physical examination including testing for tuberculosis and other communicable diseases, can we run this on our own insurance

(2) uniforms do you have to buy this from school or can we get it somewhere cheaper

(3) lab supplies pacs (nurse pacs) what do these include

(4) hospitalization insurance as neither the hospital nor the college insures the student against accidents or illnesses. is this like health insurance for us or is it like a 1) if health can we use personal 2) if liabilty how much

shannonmarie... i don't have the answers, but i can tell you what i have heard... so take it with a grain of salt...

1) i have heard of people using their insurance for this. there are different "tithers" or something like that, they use to check your immunity. when i did some searches on mcc i found this before...

2) it looks to me like you have to buy the uniforms from where they say to. they are expensive imho, you'd probably want (2) sets? you get a name badge, and a mcc patch. i know before in one of these threads the nursing students had called out the name of the place that mcc gets them from.

3) lab supplies pacs (nurse pacs) - i am pretty sure it includes a stethoscope, bp cuff... i can't think what else right now. but i believe a website called "allheart" has "nurse pacs" on the site and you can check it out. personally, i want a blinged out stethoscope!

4) i don't believe it is liability, but it actual hospitalization. from what i heard, they want to make sure you are at least covered by hospitalization, because you are going to be exposed to a lot of dangerous things... and well, we are human, and they want to make sure that mcc doesn't have to pay for you.

also shannonmarie... they rounded my hesi down too, but i have heard people saying that they rounded theirs up to a quarter mark (i.e. if they had 96.31, rounded to 96.25). i should have been rounded to a quater mark, but it's a strait up number, without a decimal point or anything! i want my .31 after my hesi score darn it!

corazondeoro how was your test!!!! wishing you the best! i'm trying to work and look at my notes from class right now. :chuckle

Okay I wonder if all health insurances will pay for the TB if you are getting it for school not because they think you may have the symptoms, and also if you get hurt during training if they will cover it because I have a HMO and if you get hurt (like break a bone) at someone else's house they do not want to pay they want you to go after their homeowners insurance.

I was hoping that I could buy my stuff separate. When I was in school for Dental Assisting they had you buy their sets and they were $50 a set. I had to have the pants tailored because they were unisex and they sell them only in set with the same size top and bottom and I need a bigger top because I am top heavy. It was really expensive and you can get the same scrubs online at this one site for $9.99 a set. I checked out the Nurse Pacs, of course they are expensive and I already have a stethoscope from working in the medical field but I guess I will have two....lol.

I do not like that they rounded them because I had a .37 on the paper they gave me when I left the test, the online site they posted the numbers on said .25, and MCC's actual site rounded it down to the lesser whole number. I want my .37 back.

My HESI got rounded as well. It is an 88. I don't know what my GPA is because I only have 4 credits taken at MCC. The rest are from Baker and OCC. I'm more than likely not going to get accepted this fall so here's to next year.

Does anyone know if they have begun their ranking yet? I would hope so!

CorazonDeOro how was your test!!!! Wishing you the best! I'm trying to work and look at my notes from class right now. :chuckle

My test went well (I think!) thanks for asking! How about you? I know I got a 98 on the lab test but we don't get the lecture exam back until Thursday. Here's hoping!!!

Also a few things I wanted to add:

My HESI was rounded up on the website, from 94.9 to 95...but who knows if they use the rounded score??

Also, my brother was in the PTA program at MCC (well he still is) and I asked him about insurance and he said they offer you some kind of hospitalization insurance and its pretty cheap, but he also said he never actually signed up for it and they never checked or did anything about it, so who knows?

I keep hoping for early letters, so I hope the ranking will be done soon but I doubt they are going out until mid-april. I like the fact that they tell you early, I think Baker does not tell you until August.

Hmmm the hospitalization insurance is interesting just because I know most personal insurance like to pass things off.

I don't see why they wouldn't use the rounded score. Whatever score is posted on MCC's website is the one they *should* use. If not, then why the hell did they round it to begin with?! :banghead:

I am going to guess they don't use the rounded score. One person could have 94.6, one person could have 94.9. The one with the higher score gets better ranking.

A bit of misinformation above, this is what you need to know:

1. You can use your own insurance to have the physical, drug screen, and titers done, but many will NOT cover it. Mine didn't. I paid about $325 to have it all done at Concentra (titers were the most expensive thing!).

2. You must buy your uniform from Dove. They are about $75 each, and the lab coat is about $50 (if I remember correctly). http://www.doveuniforms.com/productsOverview.asp?product_type_id=3 It's the uniscrub top and pants. You must buy an MCC patch for each top and jacket (from Dove).

3. The nurse pack you are required to buy from the school does not include a blood pressure cuff or stethoscope (at least the bp cuff was not included two years ago). It only has some practice supplies in it (cathether kit, IV kits, bandage supplies, injection supples, etc.).

4. You are supposed to have your own health insurance coverage. I have never had anyone make me prove I had it, though. It's just in your best interest. (malpractice) isn't required either, but it's only $29 a year if you want to purchase it.

Good luck!!!!!! Nursing school is so fun :nurse:!!!!

I am going to guess they don't use the rounded score. One person could have 94.6, one person could have 94.9. The one with the higher score gets better ranking.

I agree. It's just odd that their website, rounds the score. But it would be unfair of them to rank on a rounded number. The info packet on the selective admissions says it uses your "HESI composite score". So, that would be including the decimal places.

Also anurse2be09... Thank you very much for your explaination of all the stuff that we will be required to do! :D

CorazonDeOro! You did fantastic! :yeah: I got a 96% on the Lab and 102 on my Lecture test. Now I'm feeling like all that work over the break did pay off, but you know on the other hand, all that detailed stuff that I studied for and worried about was not even on the test . So, I'm believing that although it wasn't on there, I'm better for knowing it now! Congrats again! 1/2 way there!!!!

So, I have this information... I feel like a gossip queen. :chuckle So there is this woman in my A&P class, and she got a letter on Monday, saying that she cannot be ranked. I don't know the "full story" had something to do with her really only having 7 college credits? Anyway, I was sad for her because I didn't think they should be telling her this now :scrying:... but... they are looking at people's GPA/HESI, transcripts etc. So hopefully this show is on the ROAD! She's brining in the letter I think at our Thursday class... hopefully we will see what it said.

Shannon the TB test is like $9 at the health department. The Wayne County health department has immunizations for adults and children, you need not be a resident for $10 when I called last summer. The other stuff can be done through your insurance, although, it won't be covered anyway, because I haven't met the deductible for the year. But it will help me meet the deductible!

I can't wait for the letters to get here.

I am worried they will figure out my gpa differently too. That would suck.
