I think it is time for the MCC hopefuls to start count down

:redbeatheOkay MCC hopefuls, we are under the 45 day mark. Hopefully within 30 days we will at least have our ranking!!:redbeathe

42 days until letter day.....how are you feeling?

I have an A&P test tomorrow also! eek! Good luck! I studied ALL BREAK! I also feel you about being at the end of the alphabet, I didn;t get my confirmation that my app was complete until wayyyy late.

Good luck to you too!!!!!!! After this test, we are 1/2 way there! :yeah: I am about to go study now, but I went online to "set up" my classes to register for summer. I decided to sign up to take Pathogenic Microbiology in the summer, since I will be laid off. I'm trying to be proactive and positive in my thinking of taking it before I get into the Nursing Program! :nurse: But, I added in the class to webadvisor and at exactly midnight, I'm ready to rock and roll, oh yeah! :chuckle Anyone take this class already? Think it's doable in 6 weeks in the summer? I want in the 8am class, so by the time I get out, I can still enjoy the summer, I'm a beachy type of Margaritaville girl and I so cherish being outside, in the sun, with my nieces, by the water, taking a walk....... ahhh almost here!

CorazonDeOro... Think were starting to wig out with all the studying with this a&p test! LOL. I studied all "break" too! LOL.

I looked at the calender and April is around the corner! Come on!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol, anyone brave enough to have called the college to see where they were at? I was obsessivly calling to get my "confimation of application letter". I know the person there by name now... LOL... and I think they would want to go "WHAT DO YOU WANT AGAIN!!!". LOL. Naw.... they were nice, I just get to feel a little like someone with OCD calling that many times....

I don't know either, but I will share what information I have that I got from the school and a sleuthy lab partner.

First, I don't have any concrete evidence for 2008. But the brochure my lab partner found in the Learning center, the #121 spot for 2007, that person had a 92 HESI and 3.9143 GPA. That is not an average, but an actual. Keep in mind it was in 2007.

Now, when I went to the Nursing Seminar for 2009, I got information. However, this is going to be an average of what the last (5) ppl had to get into the program. (Spots #116-120) for 2008 was a 94.2 HESI and a 3.68 GPA in 2008 (In 2007 it was 94 HESI and 3.75GPA average, a little more competitive than 2008). The counselor also gave us info on what the last 5 ppl (had there been 160 ppl. accepted in 2008 were). Their average (Spot #156-160) HESI was 91.6 and average GPA was 3.79 .

One has to be careful with averages. They do give you some useful data, but you have to know that though it says 94.2 and 3.68 GPA, someone might have had a 96 HESI and 3.5 GPA and someone might have had a 91 HESI and a 3.9 GPA. There were only (5) ppl in that target group, so if you think in terms of standard deviations (LOL, my Dad influencing me here), that is a pretty tight range.

But on a good note, check out the averages of what the last 5 ppl accepted were had their been 160 ppl accepted. The average goes down! Yeah!

And what this all boils down to... we need to see what this applicant pool for 2009 is. We don't know for sure.:banghead:

TOXICSHOCK... I so want to be in that little hammock by the ocean like you pic! Really cute. :redbeathe

Hi...just for reference I was #160 last year, and I had a 3.9 and a 90 hesi. The averages seem to be right on.

Cin1112- thanks for the info.

Did they go to 160 spots last year? Or if it was 120 still, did you get called up as an alternate? We were wondering in one of the posts how the alternate spots work and if many people were called up.

Thanks!!

Thanks cin1112! It really was nice of you to share that!

I'm hoping you were called up as an alternate last year! So you are not new to this waiting thing! :chuckle

They only took the 120 last year. I had to go to a one day seminar for alternates, and quite a few didn't show. However, I didn't get called up.

Good luck to everyone, I hope they really do 160 this year!

[color=silver] toxic shock,

i could be wrong, but i think the 92 you are referring to is based on an avg. wasn't it referring to the last 5 who made it into the program? what do you think??

hi, i have been following this message board for quite some time. i am also one of the hopefuls for macomb this year. however, the averages thing has me quite perplexed. for 2008 #116-120 supposedly had an average gpa of 3.68 and a 94.2 this equates to (3.68*25/2=46 and 94.2/2=47.1, 46+47.1=93.1. #156-160 had a 3.79 and a 91.6. using the same formula that equates to a 91.175, which is slightly higher? using the same formula a 3.9 and a 90 hesi is a 93.75 so that person would have gotten in. i think either this formula is incorrect or the numbers are incorrect. either or it just leaves me scratching my head and waiting for my letter. i was counting on that formula!

ugh I have this recurring nightmare where the GPA I have calculated myself isn't correct and its way lower and then I don't get accepted. I wish I knew the GPA they were using NOW!!!

hi saraty and welcome!!!!

the formula's are correct (to an extent because we don't have absolute proof of their "highly guarded" formula, but it is very close). i can try to explain why using those averages for the last (5) people in the program is not a good way of trying to "figure" this thing out.

1) the numbers given, 3.68 gpa and 94.2 hesi are the average of averages... they are not the "hard" scores of what those last 5 people had. within that group, someone could have had a 99 hesi and 3.5 gpa, someone could have had a 4.0 gpa and 90 hesi. so, that is why using the average of the averages for the last (5) people will not give you the actual "scores" that were the cut off. this is why cin1112's score of 93.75 "points" did not make the cut off, although the "average of the averages" would have said otherwise...

2) taking the data, that was from the pamphlet in the learning center i talked about about... they are giving you solid, actual numbers on what #121 was. #121 in 2007 was [color=silver]92 hesi and 3.9143 gpa. using the formula you gave, that gives #121 a total of 94.92 "points". that was the number of points just "below" their cut off. we do not have data for 2008.

i hope i gave you the reasons why the "average of the averages" is not as reliable as the "hard" numbers given that were actual?

good luck to you!!!!!! this is an excellent forum to get some of that anxiety out:). don't fret too much, because really we don't know how the "group" for 2009 did all together, so really, we just still don't know. although it makes me at least feel better to try to crunch numbers, although in the end... we will just have to really wait and see...

hang in there, how are you dealing with the anxiety of waiting? :redbeathe

ugh I have this recurring nightmare where the GPA I have calculated myself isn't correct and its way lower and then I don't get accepted. I wish I knew the GPA they were using NOW!!!

I'm having the same nightmare! All my grades are from Macomb... My last 12 credit hours were at MCC (well all my credits are). I saw with my own eyes, my GPA for those last 12 credit hours and somehow I still worry....:chuckle

Ahhhh! I just want to scream. My only consolation is that next year they will be using the prerequisites to calculate our GPA which should bring the GPA's back down to a more level playing field. I am applying with a 90.4 and a 3.94 GPA. I am well aware that this puts me in the "I have no idea if I am going to get in" group. I really think they should have an on campus support group for us! haha. I had no idea before reading this forum that that was a score that didn't guarantee acceptance because at most schools it would be decent. Oh well. Good luck to you all! I have enjoyed reading all of your messages and it gives me strength to know that there are more of me out there!:wink2:

:icon_hug:Let it all out! We should set aside a moment of screaming for us MCC 2009 hopefuls. On say, tomorrow at 6pm, just open up your front door and scream! I so feel the same way that you do Saraty!

Please don't count yourself out just yet. You have very respectable scores, and if you feel better about crunching numbers, think of this...in 2007, the "actual" total points for #121 was 94.92, you are close with your scores, plus there will be 40 more spots!

But, the unfortunate truth is we will all just have to wait and see...:banghead:

I just wish they would send at least the scores they are going to use, like I said in an earlier post they rounded my HESI score down on their website.
