A week after starting school, I'm already having problems. Why? I HAVE NO DAMN MONEY! The school bookstore only had TWO used copies of books. Why should ONE book that is 200 pages long cost two hundred dollars?! I'm not on financial assistance. I can't afford all these books! The actually nursing teachers themselves are understanding, at least I bought the essentials. The lab manuals they provide online. But my anatomy teacher? She DEMANDS that not only we buy NEW textbooks, but also that we buy the lab manual. She gives us no other option. Every other teacher provides the labs. I need to buy two or three manuals, because without them I will fail and she does not allow students to share.....

Have you checked Amazon? I usually find pretty good deals on Amazon. And if you sign up on Amazon with your student email address- you'll get a 6 month free Prime membership, which means you get free 2 day shipping and 3.99 overnight shipping on anything Amazon ships (and they ship for a LOT of the used book sellers)...
We had to use a fresh lab manual for Assessment last semester-- but there is no reason to require a brand new text book. Use Amazon.

Amazon!... and most school libraries should at least have one copy of the books for the class on reserve...also check the local hospital, they usually have most books used by the local schools in their libraries.

Check to see if your school lends books to "needy" students. The school may also have funds available for books, or perhaps a student job.

What business is it of the instructor's if your book is new or not? If she wants to buy it, tell her to go for it. I totally understand her "demanding" that you use the same edition as the rest of the class (it really is frustrating when not everyone is on the same edition), but otherwise she should shut her pie hole, LOL. What about buying a book from a recent graduate?

I vote for Amazon. That's how I bought and sold most of my books during nursing school. More affordable, and I could get a lot more money selling through Amazon than selling back to the bookstore (who bought back at 20% of sale price but sold used books at 80% of the cost of new). What I did was go to the bookstore at least a week before classes, buy only those specific to the school (lab packs, but they were less than $10), write down the ISBN of all the other books, and then go find them on Amazon. Even if there weren't used available, new from Amazon was cheaper than used from the bookstore. Plus, they also offer rental textbooks (Kindle for sure, not sure about physical books).

You can also try textbookx.com... we use that site for school so I'm pretty sure you can find most of the books your looking for. Another site that I've used is gettextbooksnow.com they show you all the sites that have the book and the prices!!!! It is your one stop shop for books to find it cheaper!!
