I'm currently tallying up my numbers for our H/V/S screenings to submit to the State. I have a lot of "referred, no response". Curious to know how you go about your referrals? I send home an initial referral letter, followed by a second one a few weeks later. Then I just leave it alone. Do y'all call the parents to follow up with them on your referrals? I'm not on 2 of my campuses very much so I don't see those that I refer very often. The only way I know they've been seen for their referrals is if the parents return documentation and this RARELY happens.

I send an initial referral letter, then will follow up with two more letters, spaced a couple of months apart. Honestly, I don't call on them unless a teacher requests it, or they have Sped testing pending. They are 9th graders, and if they don't want to go to the eye doctor or audiologist, I can't make them.

When I was a shiny new school nurse I made like...a dozen attempts? At least 'til I spoke to someone.
Then I realized, as @iggywench has, that I cannot care more for the kid than the parent does. Today because it's elementary we have so much more to offer in terms of getting a kid services - and parents do not take me up on my offer of free exam and reduced price glasses. I document three attempts, one of these being a phone call, and move on.

I do call to see if they have received the letter (things get lost).

I make a phone call after the fail and send a referral letter home home. I leave it at that unless the student is going for SST or any diagnostic testing - then between myself, the teacher and if needed principal/Assist Principal will keep calling the parent until it is done.

I sent home the first letter the day after the screening was done, a second letter a month later, and then a phone call a month after that. If the parent has told me the child has an appointment coming up, I'll call after the appointment date to ask what the results were, if I haven't heard.
Before I start my phone calls, I email the teachers to ask if they have any info - the kid started wearing glasses, or the parent has told the teacher about an appointment, etc.

I send it home with child.
No response for a month(ish): Call kiddo down and ask them directly what they're up to vision/hearing wise. Then I e-mail with it attached if kiddo has no idea.
Depending on the situation I might call instead of email, but most get that email before I make my "final attempt" phone call.

My son was one of them, he left his glasses home on a morning both mom and I worked the night before. No, we are not following up.

In my district, we make 3 attempts. All are documented with the date they are sent out. Once they do not respond after the 3rd attempt, we mark them a non compliant.
