I had an MI on Tuesday

Yup, thought I was immune; yes, of course I did it to myself by lifestyle choices; just want to let you know, since this is mostly a FEMALE forum, that of course I presented with unusual symptoms; very little pain, more upper GI discomfort than anything; but the extreme diaphoresis and weakness to my arms was what sent me to the ER. I wish to applaud my hospital, Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Ia.I'll tell you that within ONE hour after I presented to the ER, the angioplasty was done and I was in the CCU. We have a local TV commercial that states "It's that good!" and I have to say that we are very lucky to have such a wonderful staff and hospital in a not-so-large community. I am a practicing RN at this hospital, and I was 20 minutes into my shift. I hope that there may be someone who treated me reading this post. If you are, thank you for saving my life and for not judging me.WOW. I'm honored to work alongside such a wonderful bunch of people!

Thanks to all of you for your well wishes. Just PLEASE, if you ever have any symptoms like mine (NOT that every woman presents with the same sx. tho), get thee to the ER and tell them that you may be having an MI....better safe than dead, I say. Thanks again, all, now you know why I hang around ya so much!

it's really disconcerting to know we women are so vulnerable; and so misdiagnosed!

who knows husker?

maybe you'll be our next national spokeswoman for accurate detection of mi in women.

may you enjoy the rest of your life. :balloons:

Glad to hear that all worked out. Your comments are a good reminder not to get tunnel vision when checking s&s.

Mercy is a sister hospital WOOHOO!!

That is awesome that you had the wonderful care.

It is a different perspective being the patient. We all should try to put ourselves in the patient's shoes and we would have a different perspective on what we do.

Glad you are doing well!!

Glad you're o.k, take care.

Hope you are doing much better! Dont even think all of it was your fault by lifestyle etc. We are human.. My Husband and I were avid walkers and he started having trouble walking, stated to me his low back hurt. We had the docs checking for ruptured disc.. and guess what? He had NO pulse in his right foot at all!!! so there you go..None of us (even the doc's ) thought it was Vascular.. he was having so much Low back pain...We all have symptoms and dont add 2+2... so dont blame you...Get well soon...

Thank you for sharing. This is a terrific post. Certainly not the streotypical male symptoms. Did you have any pain or just discomfort? I'm sorry that you had the MI. But wow! -your treatment was amazingly fast! Did you suspect an MI or did the ER come up with the suspected dx on their own? Either way I'm happy you received such good care. Thanks again for sharing your story. Please take care of yourself! Small changes can really add up to a healthier lifestyle. Hang in there!

A tad OT, but I had a patient do that too! Pt c/o hip pain after a visit to the bathroom. Noticed one foot was cooler, pulse was weak but definitely not as strong as the other. By the time we got the doc and an order for an Doppler, the foot was white and pulseless.

Turned out that there was a blockage--Pt was an A-Fibber whose Coumadin therapy had been stopped a day or so previous in order to have a procedure.

So apparently an arterial extremity clot is another condition that can present differently than we expect.
