"Male Problems" while nursing female
I really appreciate reading all the different open honest perspectives in the thread. These are sensitive topics and are often awkward and uncomfortable to discuss and I just wanted to say thank you to all who have voiced their opinion, some made me think, some answered questions and some just made me laugh. All are good things.

Gross Out Co-Worker
[i agree with you, i do! but, you must keep in mind that chewing and spewing is not a health issue. body odor can be contained. and sitting on wet seats, that she has not cleaned, is downright vulgar behavior.[/b] yes i agree you have a potential infection control issue. you should not be sitting in wet seats, i would also argue you shouldn't be sitting on fabric seats either. she should be placing a chuck on the seat not a towel, ideally a disposable chuck. study after study has shown that in a typical office building a desk area has more multiple times more microbes than the community toilet. any one who has passed a little gas on a fabric seat has the potential to innoculated it with millions of microbes. think about that for a while and let your ocd run wild. when i first met my husband he chewed with his mouth open ...yes it's totally gross...however he had no idea he was doing it...with positive encouragement years of learned behavior was quickly changed. all i'm saying it that every person deserve respect, dignity and compassion. this person either knows better and is doing the best she can to control the issue which is most likely of a physiological etiology (and i'm sure her self esteem has suffered greatly) or has gotten this far in her life without knowing any better, (unlikely) and needs a helping hand.

Gross Out Co-Worker
This was about the ONLY approriate reply to this post. Treat the subject of this post as a HUMAN! Have a little respect! How would you feel if any of these things were done to you or someone you love? This woman is aware of excretory problems as evidenced by the towels. She is most likely more fed up with it than you are. She most likely has an ongoing medical issue that is not being treated very successfully. Should she be approached? Yes. BUT, She should be addressed with KINDNESS and DIGNITY, not with an air freshener! She maybe unaware of her eating habits, please be kind to this woman, she has already endured a lot of rudeness.

I had an MI on Tuesday
Thank you for sharing. This is a terrific post. Certainly not the streotypical male symptoms. Did you have any pain or just discomfort? I'm sorry that you had the MI. But wow! -your treatment was amazingly fast! Did you suspect an MI or did the ER come up with the suspected dx on their own? Either way I'm happy you received such good care. Thanks again for sharing your story. Please take care of yourself! Small changes can really add up to a healthier lifestyle. Hang in there!

Did you make friends in your work place? I mean friends you go out with and stuff
I have made it a policy to keep work and friends separate. I would socialize when a group would go out after work, but I think socializing on an individual level can make things very compilicated at work. It can blur lines, and it can make work situation uncomfortable. That's not to say I have not enjoyed people who I have worked with. I just find it easier to keep these two worlds apart. I don't go to work to find friends, that's not to say I don't have friends at work, but they are not the same as my friends outside of work. It just make life easier. This is just my opinion and it's what has worked for me.

Nurses with ADD/ADHD?
First off, I'm sure it's not in your head. These meds are very prone to be irritating. Most doctors just don't have the time to sit down and really investigate possible reasons for problems. Second, you can do what ever you put you mind toward doing. If you want to be a nurse, do it. And when people say you can't, then be glad you have ADHD because you'll be able to think of some creative way to figure out a way to do what you want. Just keep looking and think outside of the box. You just may need to do some things differently than others. OK back to your problems. What kind of intolerance are we talking about? stomach/GI? racing heartbeat? nervousness? inability to focus or think clearly? More info could helpful. A couple of things to think about which might help you figure out an answer to your med issues. When did you first start having problems tolerating your meds? How long have you been experiencing problems? When are you taking your meds, Whats changed in your typical day since you were 11...probably a good deal. Here's my two best guesses. 1. Are you taking your ADHD med with a meal containing atleast 8 grams of protein? Carbs won't cut it. Breakfast bars often do not have that much protein, Did you start having problems after giving up the milk and cereal routine in favor of a portable breakfast. If you are trying to take the meds without a meal containing a fair amount of protein, that very well may be your issue. Also if you are using a time release formula (ie may have initials like XL, TR, SR,) a second meal with another 8 grams of protein may keep queeziness and nausea, jitteriness away. Protein makes a HUGE difference. If you look, you can find individually wrapped potable low fat cheese, cheddar and mozzarella. These can be extremely handy and can typically go without refridgerating at room temp for 6 or so hours. 2. Presuming you are a female, Have you recently started or switched birth control types? ie any type that is hormone based (pill, patch, ring, etc) could be contributing to your intolerance. I jave found that even switching from generic to name brand can bother me. Are you trying to take ADHD med and birth control at the same time (with no food)? Vomit comet all the way! Trying to remember to take both at separate time may be hard, but may be essential. Are you taking you your ADHD meds and and thing else? Even a mulitvitamin can bring on the nausea. Feel free to pm me. Hope this helps.

For RN's) How much do you take home after taxes????
FWIW: I personally have not found http://www.salary.com very accurate. I have searched in several different professions I am knowledgeable with and not found it very helpful. I do think it is inappropriate to ask an acquaintance, however, I think it is a completely acceptable question in an anonymous setting. I am part of a professional society (less than 3000 members) who sponsors an annual salary survey. It divides salaries into categories such as setting, experience, geographical region, etc. This is one of the most valuable functions of this society. Any information which would reveal a person's identity is excluded. It gives all members a feel for competative salaries/benefits/vacation time and the like. It make negotiating much easier and gives us as a group some control in raising our compensation. It allows us to further our profession, increase our value, and gain much deserved respect. I think the nursing profession could benefit greatly if it could share such important information using a similar format
