In my view, nurses are always women. But I also heard man also canbe a nurse. I wonder if it is true. I like to take care of patient job. Is that embarrassed if man want to be a nurse ? I do not want to be abused by doctors and other nurses. What is the situation about man nurse in USA and Canada? Is the salary of man is very low compared to womon salary ?Thank you.

If you have the ability to think and reason, you can become a nurse.

you can do anything you put your mind to.
as for wondering if men can nurse that's like asking if women can fly airplanes or drive city buses. :stone :angryfire

Can a man be a nurse? I don't know - can a woman be a police officer, or a dentist, or a doctor, or perhaps a bricklayer? Can a man work as a typist, secretary, telephonist, or schoolteacher? The notion of "jobs for the boys" and "jobs for the girls" is an outdated and antiquated philosophy that kept women oppressed with low wages/conditions/status and rewarded men for no reason. It was the result of a set of social norms that promoted gender inequality by supposing that women are innately humble/meek/soft and unable to cope with "real work". As those of us who are nurses would know, work doesn't get much more real than nursing. Gender is an irrelevant factor in determining what kind of nurse you would make: if you are an intelligent, compassionate, and dedicated worker, then there is no reason you wouldn't succeed in this field (and you would be welcomed with open arms).

I had to take my pre-admission test in May to qualify to start in September, Yea! I got in. Anyway there were a few men. I also serve on an ambulance corp. in my town and when we bring patients to the hospital there are male nurses. They are very diligent and seem to enjoy their careers.
Go for it...

Yes you can and yes you should, if it's your dream. Try to find and talk to male nurses who can serve as role models and later, mentors for you. See what it's all about. Best wishes, whatever decisions you reach.

Is this a serious post? There are thousands of male nurses in the US. I work with many excellent, highly professional male nurses. Gender has NOTHING to do with how successful a person will be in this field, nor how they are treated by others. It is inconsequential.
I think this person is serious. What if he is a school student just exploring his future career? I don't think questioning his sincerity is very welcoming or helpful; I think this post deserves respectful and serious consideration, not treated as a troll. JMO.....

This may be off the subject just a little bit, but I was thinking about all the men in my nursing class. All of them are now in management positions. Do we really all get treated the same and have the same opportunities? Or, is it just a male thing to "climb the ladder" so to speak. I know that not all people are interested in "moving up" - it just seems like men "move up faster"(in nursing). Personally, I have no desire to be in management. Just food for thought.

there's the thing. i'm sure based on the syntax that this poster's first language is not english and is unlikely in or from the us. let's ease up on him :).

I agree. I think the OP is a guy in another country and is thinking about nursing as a career. Maybe in his country nursing is strictly a female thing. Or maybe there are men who are nurses there, but he isn't sure about what it's like here.
