In my view, nurses are always women. But I also heard man also can
be a nurse. I wonder if it is true. I like to take care of patient job. Is that embarrassed if man want to be a nurse ? I do not want to be abused by doctors and other nurses. What is the situation about man nurse in USA and Canada? Is the salary of man is very low compared to womon salary ?
Thank you.

you have right to choose profession whatever you want to. i have lots of male friends who are nurse. they do very well at their duties. however, you will see at your class there are mostly women. i have 6 men on 44 women ratio. i would advice you to start looking for good accreditated school at your place and good luck.

We have a lot of male nurses in the hospital I work in. As long as they do a good job, like anyone else, they are well respected and very welcome.

I work in an ER where a large percentage of nurses are male. I am glad more men are getting into nursing as it has improved salaries for all. From what I have read, men actually are making a little more than women in nursing. There are many men at the bedside in all aspects of nursing. As far as I know there is no discrimination against men in nursing (you would have to ask a man), but I have always enjoyed having the men around. In the ER we can get patients who are out of control, drunk, on drugs or just plain nasty, and they seem to respond better when a man "requests" that they behave like gentlemen! Good luck, do your homework, and let us know how it works out. By the way, what country are you writing from? Just curious.

More men are going into nursing these days. They make excellent nurses too. Male patients appreciate it also, especially the older gentlemen. The male nurses make the same as the female nurses. Pay scale is figured in with experience and specialty. I say go for it.

I don't know, can you? It takes alot of hard work and dedication. If you are able to do these two things, than why not.

I can tell that you are from another country. I don't know what the male nursing situation is like where you live, but in the US, no one thinks twice if a male is a nurse anymore. Men make wonderful nurses. We have quite a few on my floor and many more around the hospital. They are nurturing and are still the minority compared to women. The women nurses LOVE having the men around. There's only so many women you can stand to be around. Having a man around is nice to change things up a bit. Men can help if we need a brawny guy to carry something for us
If nursing is what you want to pursue, don't let anything hold you back; especially not the stigma that is attatched to male nurses. If you want to do it bad enough, you will and you will succeed. Good luck!

nursing is a gender non-specific career...equal pay and equal opportunity...no reflection upon one's gender other than the willingness to accept a vocation based on compassion and the promotion of health. Any other viewpoint is demonstrably outdated. I am a male nurse of 15 years...and very proud of my choice in career! I hope you also may discover the kind of job satisfaction that only nursing can deliver!! :rotfl:

I'd love to see more men nurses in the hopsitals. They aren't as much into gossiping etc...

Take a look at the "Profile" at

You'll see a number of nurses who are men.

i am a studet as well in a R.N. program , if you believe this is a field that interests you then go for it.
as for me the challanges come from a male perspective that cannot be seen from the female point of veiw;however, never, rule their point of veiw as well. a team is always best united no matter what gender.
