Hi guys, I am so happy today i just got my TWU acceptance letter today.. wheww I was so anxious.. Well I am just so happy thought i leave a message
OMG I thought I only had to cough up $39 bucks for the background check. How much were the uniforms and how many pairs do you get. I am in Houston and they have a lot of uniform stores around the medical center. I hope its not mandatory that i buy the uniforms from the school. Did anyone go the the meeting about TWU tuition increase, if so what is the percentage their increasing the tuition to????? I have a littman stethoscope that my mother left me so I don't need one but I just need the earpiece to be change the rubber has a tear on it.
Great information! Thank you for taking the time to post this. I'll be applying this February for fall '05.
Congrats on surviving your first semester! :wink2:
Hi there! I am currently a Junior I at TWU and I am so happy the semester is almost over!If your orientation is anyrhing like ours was, they will money you to death. First, you have to pay for the background check. Mine was only $20 because I have lived in the Dallas area all my life. Some people who have lived in several states, etc. had to pay as much as $200. TNSA will try to get you to buy uniforms through them. My suggestion is don't buy them. I did and they were cheaply made and the lab coat was 5 sizes too big. There was a lot people exchanging. It was a big hassle. Just go to a scrub shop, or even Wal-Mart and get a white top, maroon pants and a long lab coat. Then, buy a couple of TWU patches at the bookstore (about $2) and sew them on. TNSA made it sound like you were getting a good deal because they sew your patches on for you. I would buy the name tags though, because they are a hassle to get made up anywhere else.
Next, they will have you sign up for a CPR class (I think it was about $30). You can take it through them or get it elewhere. I took it there, it was much easier because you need it before you start clinicals. Of course, you get a discount if you join TNSA. I ended up spending $300 that day because I bought it all including a TWU College of Nursing t-shirt and TNSA t-shirt. Trust me, you will get plenty of opportunities to buy t-shirts. I have like 4 now because every class sells them to raise money for their pinning ceremony.
A stethoscope, you can wait on. Clinicals don't start until 6 weeks into the semester. Plus, a company comes out and you can use their models to decide which one you want. They say they give a discount but you can get them online for same price or cheaper. I am still using my cheap $12 one. They will also check you out a stethoscope to keep for the whole semester in assessment class!
On the day of orientation, you will get a packet with your name on it. It will have the price of your background check, your net test results, your clinical group assignment, and your tentative schedule! Good luck!
If you have any more questions, feel free to e-mail me!
Hi! I'm excited about orientation on Friday in Dallas--thanks for the info about what to expect.
I'm also taking Patho this semester at the Denton campus, to get it out of the way before nursing school starts. There are a lot of us doing this, to make that first semester a little easier.
This semester before nursing school starts has been wonderful. I've met up with quite a few other women who are starting the nursing program in January, and it's really nice to already have friends going into it.
But, I've got a really bad case of the "I don't want to's"--I haven't even started studying for the final Micro lab practical tomorrow morning!!! So, I should get out of here and get cracking on the books!

To anyone taking patho right now what are you currently making in that class??? Did you read the book??? Did you taped the lectures??
Making an A. Our instructor tests us on his lectures, not the book. The book is not a good read, but is a good reference. Our instructor allows taping, and some people do tape. He's a good teacher, and I think we're getting what we need.

I got an A when I took the class. I rarely opened the book, just studied the notes from lecture. The instructor was/is very fair, is always available for extra help and has some very funny stories/examples to go along with lectures.
is *sophomore* philosophy [or lit] required as a prereq? I only have freshma, but I got accepted.
A "sophomore" lit or philosophy class is required as a core course, but I wonder if it's just one of those classes you can take anytime before you graduate--you know we can take our Woman's Studies and Multicultural classes after we start nursing school, right? I wonder if it's like those courses. You should definitely ask someone in the nursing department as quickly as you can. Even though it's your responsibility to submit your transcripts and know what classes you need to complete before you start nursing school, it's THEIR responsibility to review everything and make sure you'll have completed all of the prereqs before they admit you. If they accepted you, it's probably fine, but I'd check it out.
Have you had orientation yet? Ours was yesterday (Friday).
