Hi guys, I am so happy today i just got my TWU acceptance letter today.. wheww I was so anxious.. Well I am just so happy thought i leave a message
Yup, we had orientation Friday. It sounds so intimidating!Kristy, on the jan 13 orientation they give us the info on that. There's a lot that we buy a contract for that is cheaper than $10 a day and they run shuttles 24 hrs a day so we have to ride those.
Is the Houston orientationi the 13th or 14th?? I am looking at it now and it says 14th please clarify this for me thanks..

Undergraduate Nursing Students will be involved in Nursing Orientation with Dr. **** a good half of the day on January 13th in the Education Building. These same newcomers to the Undergraduate Nursing Program will return at 8:00 a.m. Friday morning, January 14th to Room #206 of the Mary Gibbs Jones Building (MGJ), to participate in the General Orientation. Sessions this second day will cover such areas as parking and transportation within TMC, health-related resources, registering for classes and financial aid possibilities. Groups will be created after the first hour, and the Orientation will continue to unfold, addressing such hands-on necessities like: setting up your Pioneer Portal account, becoming familiar with Blackboard, obtaining an ID Badge, going on a campus tour, becoming acquainted with Internet-based medical resources, and an orientation to the Houston Academy of Medicine - Texas Medical Center Library. Laced throughout the day will be introductions to several services provided by the Counseling Center, Cashier, Security (Department of Public Safety - DPS), Student Life; and opportunities possible through Campus Ministries, Student Government, and other registered student organizations.
How are we supposed to do the CPR course? I have a TNSA letter from orientation that offers it on jan 10, 11, and 12, but the calendar that was sent to me when I got accepted has it down as jan 15. What are you guys doing?
You don't have to take it from them. As long as it it is from the American Heart Association (expires in 2 yrs). I called a couple of places around houston that offers CPR and they charge $30 bucks. I wanted to take it from TWU but then i have to pay another $10 parking fee. Plus the place I am taking is closer to my home and there are only 10 people taking the class including me. Mine is Jan 8th Saturday.
I am starting TWU Dallas in Jan. and at our orientation they gave us either a syllabus or a letter from our course instructor telling us which books to get and what to read before the first day.
I have 21 chapters to read and so far Ive only done the 5 from Pharmacology. I guess Ill be busy in the next few weeks!
Even if you dont get a list of the books you need, you will still be able to go to the bookstore and get the books reserved for your classes (they should be sorted according to course number)--if you dont want to buy them from the bookstore, you can just copy down the ISB numbers and buy them online...most of our instructors gave us the book title, author and ISB so we could get them however we wanted to.
Heres another question...
Does anyone know how strict TWU is on the shoes we wear to clinicals? I know they have to be all white leather athletic/tennis shoes, but do they have to be all leather? I know Baylor requires all leather and I think someone asked that question during my orientation on Dec. 10, but I dont remember the answer.
Did they give out the book list fot TWU houston students??? I am clueless......I only got what supplies I might need but not the book and who the heck can cram 21 chap with other classes I want to read it now while on holidays.
Nope, no book list
Do you have AIM? If so, mind if I add you? My AIM sn is mentalpiracyx

Our clinical instructor was not that tough on us about our shoes. I wore sketchers that had a little bit of pink on them. Several other people had some silver on their shoes. We asked him about these the first time we wore them to lab and he said they were fine. I don't think anyone was inspected enough to tell if they were wearing all leather shoes or not. More people got reminded about keeping hair pulled back and neat (short) fingernails more than anything. Just check with whoever your clinical instructor is if you are not sure!
For Pharmacology: The instructor is wonderful and she gives really good notes. I barely opened my book all semester and did really well in the class. Try not too spend too much time studying those chapters they assigned. It makes so much more sense once the semester actually starts and you know what specifically to study. Some of those chapters in the Perry and Potter book ramble on forever! Very soon, you will be feeling overwhelmed. Enjoy your time off while you can! When we were leaving our last final, they gave us an info sheet about what we needed to study before Junior II semester starts. I will glance at it a few days ahead of time and that is it!!! There is a reason that it is called vacation!!
About books: be careful about buying books according to what the bookstore suggests. Go by your syllabi. Otherwise, you will buy tons of books you will never need. The good thing is, several of the books you use throughout the program. Going into Junior II semester, I have far fewer books to buy than for Junior I.
Hope this helps!!
