salary--dfw
The hospital I am working at pays 22.85/hr (for new grads) with an evening shift diff of 2.50 (3-7pm) and a 4.50 shift diff between 11pm-7am. Weekend shift diff is $5/hr. If you sign up for a fourth shift in a week you are given a double bonus of an extra $10/hr on top of any overtime. An on-call shift is paid at time and a half regardless if you have 40 hours or not. Needless to say, I'm pretty happy with my hospital and my paychecks!!

Career Fairs?
By all means, go now. RUN!! I graduate next month also and all but a handful of my classmates have already landed a job. Really, the earlier the better especially if you are hoping to get into a specialty area. I just got offered a job on Friday in ICU at a fairly busy hospital and I accepted. I'm so excited!

Making a choice of Schools
There's also NCTC in Gainesville. It's about 30 minutes north of Denton. I graduate from there next month. I'm not sure how far north you live but it may be worth looking into.

Why are you REALLY going into nursing? Honest answers please.
The endless opportunities. Knowing that I have a job where I can explore so many different facets of the medical world. Don't like med-surg? Be an L&D nurse, how about oncology, or rehab? Dialysis, pedi, NICU. There is so much to choose from! There is advanced practice, administration, teaching. Goodness, there isn't enough time for me to experience all that nursing has to offer!! I can't wait!! (I graduate in December so my wait isn't that long)

Getting Organized Before Starting School
Clean out my closets and cabinets. That way there's a place to hide all the junk when I don't have time to clean!

Study Groups Necessary???
My study group pretty much consisted of our 12 person clinical group. We would divvy up the test map as soon as we got it and then email the review to each other. This worked really well for me as I had already done the reading and my own outlines so the others' reviews would be reinforcers.

How Many is Too Many
Perhaps this is why the Duggar's buddy system works so well. Each older child is paired with one younger child. Therefore the oldest aren't overburdened with caring for all the little ones, each has only one he/she is responsible for. I think it teaches responsibility and builds character. They all seemed very happy and surrounded by love. Who could ask for more.

What squicks you out?
