  1. I'm not a nurse yet but I would like to chip in: I'm currently pursuing my BSN which is my second degree (first degree Bs Biochemistry) and I find Nursing school challenging but not overwhelming. I remember going through a rough time in the pharmaceutical industry because of the isolation in the labs. I think it's all relative to your personality and ability to adjust. If your able to thrive off the adrenaline/stress and interactions with your patients you'll have an easier time. During clinicals I've seen many nurses (and students) have difficult times dealing with confrontatons and on the job stress (God-complex Doctors/Residents) because they unconsiously feed into these negative interactions. I work in a Detention Center while attending Nursing School full time (14-17 cr/semester), and I handle my share of stress. Nursing school/clinicals are the less stressful parts of my day:D. Just my 2
  2. hey guys. I moved backed to the island to get my BSN. My first B.s. was in microbiology. I decided to go for the BSN because it would take me the same amount of time as the ADN. And second it was more economical than my options stateside.
  3. I study in the University of Puerto Rico and it is accredited by the middle states college association ( One of a few U.S. entities that accredit universities). We are also a US territory which means you SHOULD NOT be classified as a foreign Nurse. If I were you and your friend I'd check again, the person who attended her probably isn't aware that we are part of the US. And please keep us posted.
  4. Thank you all (male/female) for your comments. I posted this here just to see the "male" perspective on the shortage. On the general forums I will most likely get a majority of women responding and there are already similar posts that I have read. I value EVERYONES opinion be it male or female but I figured I would get more insight from my target group here. There shouldn't be any difference by gender, only by geographical location which is what everybody confirmed (which is great). Hopefully I can help others on here when I get some experience b/c this site has helped me a great deal.:yeah:
  5. I totally agree with you ArwenEvenstar. I'm doing my second Bs. in nursing and I'm living frugal. That's not easy when your a 28 single male LOL. In the end I think it'll be worth it because I'm pursuing my dream.
  6. Thank you for the info. From what I've picked up on the forum every year different regions suffer from a glut or shortage. Basically like a cycle. Fair observation or is it too broad?
  7. It depends on your preference I personally like written exams.
  8. Take it seriously. Why not, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
  9. I'm pursuing my second Bs in nursing (my first Bs is Microbiology/Chem minor) and I'm curious as to how difficult was it for you (male nurses) to find a job after graduation. I sometimes become a little nervous when I hear that new grads are having such a hard time. I would like to move to the tri-state area when I graduate (if that helps). But I'm open to all possabilities:D. Let's hear your 2:twocents: Thanks
  10. thank you. How much would pay increase (a guestimate) after 2yrs experience?
  11. I plan to relocate to the Dallas/metroplex area once I Graduate. How much is the starting salary for BSN with no exp.? I read numerous post and I've checked salary.com but the info is just over whelming?
  12. Some degrees don't require it. I will obtain a B.s. in Microbiology (May '06)and it is geared towards the pharmaceutical industry and bacterial genetics (i.e. genetically manipulating them). My minor is chemistry. People who major in Biology where I study HAVE to take A&P. They usually don't farewell because like stpaulgirl said they don't apply themselves. Stpaulgirl, I by NO means think that I'm going to breeze through the BSN. I'm just curious as to how much of my B.s. will come in handy in terms of learning the material.
