Yeah, this is a rant. I had a nurse quit today....no notice. I really hope karma comes back and bites her in the butt. No excuse whatsoever for quitting without notice.
Maybe they just can't handle whatever it is that has them leaving. Maybe they feel it's unsafe for them or for the residents, have tried to let management know (or assume they don't care) and feel unheard. I'm not saying it's right, but there must be a reason....
It's a well run facility and a good place to work. Staffing ratios are better than average. Management is supportive and believe in educating/re-training before disciplinary action. The staff that quit like that are the one's who take exception at being held to a standard they either can't or won't perform to. I suppose they quit rather than being fired, but that's just me speculating.
Where is the accountability and responsibility at lately? Such a turnover....nurses show up to get oriented then don't show up for their schedules. It's getting old, the turnover we see all the time. We have regular nurses there but the other half of them, it is a revolving door. I understand what your talking about. That's probably why they could care less....everyone is always hiring in LTC. The thing is, you need time to get routines down in LTC, a lot of nurses don't stick around long enough to figure it out and give it a chance... I totaly get the frustration!
I'll be snatching a job in no time I would appreciate my opportunity
CCM Over the years, I have read how you run your facility and FWIW, it sounds like a well run organization...you support your staff, you support the residents and their families. You work hard to keep communication ongoing....I HATE STAFFING issues and this one stinks!!! I worked last evening at my perdiem job and at the last minute, they LNAs realized the person on the noc shift was no longer an employee......we covered it piecemeal but what a PITA!!!
Hopefully there will be someone to step in and they will have a beter sense of profesionalism...
Good Luck

The most beautiful, well run facility with perfect surveys I worked in was awful. We NEVER had decent staffing, we worked ourselves TO DEATH. A smaller facility really suffers when one or two staff members are out. The admin would do anything to get you to take OT-even offering ridiculous amounts of money on the spot. They all believed the facility was just fabulous-the décor, artwork, therapy pets were all wonderful. I died a little bit every single day. It was horrible. I did give notice before I left.
