Ok, I strongly dislike it when 17 year olds come in at 2:30 AM looking for a pregnancy test...hello? Drugstore?

And i dislike it even worse when they come back positive.

And when they bring the baby daddy with them.

Blech!:argue:

It's not politically incorrect to ask the question Michigan...

Why on earth would one want to bear a child he/she CANNOT afford??

We have the right to ask this question

Take a look at our country's welfare system. Our government spends a ton of money on abstinence programs and look at the good it's really done. They're better off handing out condoms to kids who are in middle school and high school. Kids are gonna have sex if they want to, might as well educate them and give them protection.

yes, and when they smell like they just walked out of a humidor. you just know......when that baby is born, the tax-payers will foot that bill too. the baby daddy will not step up to the plate, cause his dad never did .......so he doesn't have a clue how to be a father. i am pro-life and do pay high taxes, contribute to charities, and pray a lot for the children, etc. but i too "strongly dislike" when i see this in the ed daily.

last week i had a female come into the ed for discharge/odor, when assessed by the emd she answered to: single, no insurance, job or protection. g4p3 was one of her discharge dxs and about jumped out of the bed when i told her she was pregnant. she said "no-way".....i stood there smiling at her and said...."well, that's what happens when you do not use protection." "the emd has ordered prophylactic antibiotics for the std.".....when i told her she would have to stay 30min. post injection she said to me...." oh come on, my grandma is waiting for me in the triage area, i've had this tx/antibiotic before, i'll be okay" i asked the emd if that was okay and he said yes.....and then we stood there staring at each other, shaking our heads....... knowing.....we would be paying for her and her (4) children for decades to come.

ignorance and pregnancy is the leading pet peeve for me...mainly ignorance but....the pregnancy tends to compound our frustrations. but hey!!!!! let's give out condoms in 7th grade! >>> all er nurses should form a coallition to teach young children....our future adults and " i am hanging on your coatails"/ignorant population.....what their future holds......oh i am ranting here....lol....i'll just go now and bang my head against the wall:banghead:, beat a dead horse:deadhorse,

oops....did i say that?:omy: where's the answer?:(

too bad we can't offer the following options:

1. mandatory adoption

2. mandatory sterilization

3. and, as unpopular as it may be with some folks, the "a" word.

my opinions only, not necessarily anyone else's. i'm sick of paying for the dregs of society.

Sometimes when I explain to people my stance on abortion, they confuse me as being pro-choice. Yes, it is a choice, but I believe abortion should NOT be a form of birth control. I believe it should only be allowed in certain cases such as rape, incest, and if it is medically necessary.

My GP friend has the best suggestion to prevent these "ladies and gents" having children.

Put Contraceptives in the our water supply

When these " ladies and gents" can afford bottled water, then they can get all the children they want.

Had a patient recently who suffered a traumatic brain injury, fell while breaking into industrial premises. He was a teenager, already had 2 children, and 3rd on the way. None of his family were involved in paid employment (or at least, honest employment), but they knew their 'rights' down to a T.

Talking of which, we have a drinks machine in the visitors waiting room with free hot drinks, and they actually took all the drinks home with them...kid you not.

This being the same family that wondered why the patient couldn't have a brain transplant, after all he was ENTITLED to one on the NHS.

This just proves my point that some people should not be allowed to procreate.

Based on 10 years experience as an office Ob/Gyn nurse I dream of:

Birth control in the water supply. To get the agent required to reverse it's effects you must:

Apply for a license to have a child

Take parenting classes

prove that you are responsible enough financially/job wise to qualify for the privilege.

All others need not apply!:D:D:D

well they wont pay the bill anyway!!!! :angryfire

but they sure can afford all those new fancy cell phones!!! can't spend money on a pregnancy test because it is paid for through the system. gotta save that money for the cell phone and other things that the system doesn't pay for!

really gripes my butt!

and masses of gold jewerly, nail appointments, hair appointments, real designer purses (not rip-offs), etc.

on another note, used to work as a supermarket checker, still remember the people who bought lobster with their food stamps. i couldn't afford lobster! nothing else just lobster, probably got the food stamps from somebody else (back when the food stamps were paper, not a debit cards like now, people traded them for drugs, cigs, booze, etc.)

They have $1 pregnancy tests at The Dollar Tree that work just fine. I'd much rather scrape up a buck and go to the store, rather than wait in an ER for hours.

If I could click the thank you button a dozen times, I would. I was at the dollar tree the other day and sure enough, a one dollar home pregnancy. Seriously, I think people who go to ER for just a pregnancy test should have pay the costs of the visit, not the hospital or the government.

Here's an idea...Buy up all the $1 tests from Dollar Tree. Dispense them next to the hot drink machine (from another post) in the ER lobby.

Charge $2 and turn a nice profit...
