Ok, I strongly dislike it when 17 year olds come in at 2:30 AM looking for a pregnancy test...hello? Drugstore?

And i dislike it even worse when they come back positive.

And when they bring the baby daddy with them.

When I was younger, I used to get frustrated with abuse as the system as a problem also. Now I realize its a fault inherent in our system compromising many levels. One is the education system in our country which has plummeted from its previous lofted ranking to mediocre. Very sad.

Another is our societies belief in what I call the McDonald's Syndrome, basically " I want it now, immediately,and I want what I want" That's even sadder I think. Another is a problem with our Insurance industry. Lets save money by denying treatment or paying less for the treatment. Another is a problem with the Doctors themselves. How many doctors out there are refusing to see any indigent or medicaid or welfare patients at all. Too many are. Another is the Republican Government, who in all their wisdom, just as easily assumes there is no problem, thus denying it totally, this way they do not have to deal with it. Now this can go on through many more levels, so lets just assume it has more facets to this problem than any diamond in the world.

Is there a cure for it, Im not sure. I am sure the Republican party is in complete denial, oblivious, and totally clueless.

In the meantime, I know that for me to get upset with, or to blame, or to get frustrated is not going to do any patients at all any good. It certainly is not going to do me any good. So I think the weather is beautiful today, so I am going out and go skydiving with some friends. Want to free fall with me.

the emergency room ought to be reserved for emergencies! period. perhaps if there were more urgent care centers . . .

I didn't even read through all the responses because I'm totally appalled and disgusted at some of them! I AM on state assistance. Well I'm not, but my daughter is on state health and WIC. I got pregnant while on birth control. While I wasn't planning on having a child before I was financially well off I love my daughter and she comes first. I buy her clothes, food, ect before I would even think of buying myself anything. This girl has it all and then some. I work my tail off working 50-60 hours a week working as a CNA. I'm also going back to school to become a nurse. So I'll be working full time, going to school full time, and raising my daughter. I'm doing this to make our lives better, because let me tell you the CNA wages are not cutting it. How about instead of putting birth control in the water we raise wages! I could make just as much working at Burger King or Wal-Mart but I like to be an aide. With that said it does frustrate me those that have 10 kids knowing darn well the child is going to be put on state assistance, ect. I know I can't afford another child and while I pine for one I'm waiting until we are more stable.

you mean urgent care centers that take medicaid, medicare, and indigent populations. until you find a system that deals with those in need, we need to continue as we are.

This is true. I need the non-urgent ones just for comic relief sometimes. Doing clinical rounds in an ER, had one present today after taking a header off a bike. Huge pump-knot and black eye, no joke about that, not even a little.

The hilarious part..."Nurse Practitioner Angelfire, I think both my shoulders are dislocated."

I examine him and assure him that they are not.

"Well, I think they are, it pops when I do this."

And he proceeds to do "windmills" with the "dislocated" shoulders.

I was told I passed the semester simply for keeping a straight face.

Our immediate cares and urgent cares must take every patient that comes in. (EMTALA).....

Urgent cares in this area is for only those with insurance and or ability to pay. I did not think they came under EMTALA guidelines.

Hey, if anyone wants, for 5$, I can give you information on a 100% effective way to prevent unwanted pregnancies.

It will even prevent spread of infections too!!

Correct! To fall under Federal Guidelines (COBRA), a place must designate itself "Emergency" not "Urgency".....

Our immediate cares are part of our Healthcare foundation, the same docs run the immediate cares and the same nurses who work ER float through there. There are not different "rules", and no-one can be turned away because the have no insurance...period!
