I Hate Nursing School

This is one time ADRN that I agree with you 100%. I am totally stressed out from school and working, my husband and I are about bankrupt, and now I have this STUPID toy project due for Parent/ Child health.

We have a major test just about every Monday, it's pretty much up to us to learn the material, last weeks test was on 700+ pages of which I only had the chance to read maybe 500, so you can guess how well I did on that test.

Ok I'm done now, like you I just need to release some steam.

Yup, you are about to graduate. That was the way I felt during my last semester .... I was so tired of all the studying and all the stupid requirements my school had during my last semester. I was ready to get back to a normal life. I feel your pain. Hang in there, before you know it, you will be walking on the stage to collect your degree and sitting for State Boards and your school experience will be nothing more than a memory.

I graduated in 2000 with my ADN was was chomping at the bit to get out of there! I look back at it now and all it is , is a memory for me. Hang in there, it is almost over.

Boy, do I hear you all! I graduated a long time ago, but I went to school full-time and worked full-time. So, 2-3 days a week I would be at the hospital for clinicals 7-3, and at work 3-11, and then I would work a 12-hour shift or two at the weekend (mostly nights). I used to think that I found the many of the classes idiotic because I was so stressed out, but now that I am in grad school I realize they were idiotic. Just get through it and it will be worth it. But, educators out there, is there any way to make the undergrad part more relevant? I can't believe how I am enjoying even the theory portion of my course this time, maybe because I have real life experience to tie it to. Maybe some of the projects are just busy work? Think about it teachers! Becaue the waste of time classes were extremely frustrating. Thanks!

I hated every single minute of every single day of nursing school. Only I cared about my grades.

Learn what you can and study hard. When it's time to take boards you're going to regret being a slacker.

Tweety, not a slam, just an observation. I really don't think the OP is a slacker or he/she wouldn't be in their last semester of nursing school. There are times when you simply cannot do it all. Reading 700 pages may not be as beneficial as reading and LEARNING 500 out of 700 of the pages. A person can read all of the assigned pages and retain nothing.

ADNRN, keep going. I'll share something very personal with you that has helped me make it this far (graduate in May). My father was severely ill, palliative, at the end of my second semester. My family and I visited as often as possible during school and constantly when I wasn't in school. When I wasn't there physically everyday, we talked on the phone every evening. Even though my father was "confused", he remained coherent with regards to my schooling. He asked me one night about how school was going and I told him that my grades were good but it never seemed to end, and I was beyond exhaustion (averaging about 3 hours of sleep a night). I told him it felt like I was just banging my head against a brick wall. My Dad laughed a little and said, "So, you have a hard head, you can take it. Keep banging your head against that wall and eventually it'll break, and you'll be through." My Dad was right. Keep going. Keep banging your head against the wall... you'll get through.

i WON'T BE ENTERING NURSING SCHOOL UNTIL THIS FALL. BUT I'M GLAD THAT YOU ALL ARE REALLY VENTING YOUR FRUSTRATIONS. i CAN ONLY HOPE THAT MY SCHOOL EXPERIENCE WILL BE A LITTLE BETTER THAN YOU ALL BUT I DOUBT IT. I HAVE A COWORKER WHO WENT TO THE SCHOOL THAT I AM GOING TO ATTEND. SHE SAID IT WAS THE HARDEST THING THAT SHE EVER DID IN HER LIFE AND SHE'S NEVER BEEN BACK THERE, EVEN TO GET HER YEAR BOOK!!! WELL, I JUST CAN'T WAIT TO START BECAUSE I CAN'T WAIT TO STOP.

I hated nursing school too. Lots of stupid little hoops to jump through. And I resented a lot of the nursing stuff b/c I felt like I couldn't enjoy my other non-nursing classes b/c of the nursing classes. If that makes sense...just got home from working last night, running errands, etc.

Just remember... C = RN! (But don't take that too much to heart, or you might regret it later!)

i hated nursing school also, i worked a full time job and had three kids at home. my last semester was the best, because i stoped working. i was glad it was almost over, wouldn't want to do it again.

Yep nursing school blows!

I like many others worked full time and went to school full time. Had allot of 48 hr periods with 2 hours of sleep. Then Id have to sit in class listening to a windbag instructor spout drivel, none of which would be on the test and much of which was completely unrelated to nursing. Yet if you miss even one class you would be on academic warning and 2 would put you in real danger of getting kicked.

At some point you stop warring about A's and just do enough to get by. In my last year I realized I could spend hours upon hours studding and get an A or I could skim the books and review my notes in 20 min and get a B. When your in school and working full time + have a family, that one grade level isn't worth all those sleepless nights.

It's so nice to hear that other's feel the same way I do! I was stewing over this same topic last night and almost posted about it.

I'm in my second semester of a BSN program and hate it with a passion. I love when I get to do "nursing things", but those opportunities are few and far between. So many little hoops to jump through. I'm just keep telling myself that graduation is just a little over a year away!
