I got played by a kindergartner My

Published

Little kindergartener walks into my clinic today cradling a treasure in her hands. The secretary asks her, "Oh, did you lose a tooth?!?!" She nods yes. So I, all excited for her, grab a sticker (which I always have done last) and put it on her shirt for her. Get a tooth container & tell her to drop her treasure inside. I notice how nice & white her tooth was. Just as I was about to compliment her on how nicely she cares for her teeth, it hit me. I dumped her treasure into the palm of my hand. A small, quartz-like stone! My initial thought was to take that sticker back, tell her she's nuts & send her back to class. But I didn't want the little cherub to cry. I said, "This isn't a tooth." She nodded her head yes. I said, "Where did this come from?" "Back here (pointing to her rear molar)." For a second I was concerned that maybe a tooth broke or a filling came out...but no. I said, "This was in your mouth?" "Yes." At this point, I'm in such shock that this little angel lied to me that I just put her stone in the tooth container & sent her back to class. Later I asked her teacher if she was sneaky like that & she said not really. I guess there's a first time for everything. I told her I don't want her to have to give up the sticker or get in trouble or anything like that, let's just use this as a lesson in telling the truth. I got played by a kindergartner. We all had a good laugh at that one as I wondered if I really had to document that visit. Rookie mistake. :banghead:

I had one kid, being raised by a gay parent, inform me there isn't a such of thing as a tooth fairy but there is a tooth elf. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

That is awesome!!

Those damn ATMs only spit out $20 bills, such a pain!

Heck, this is perfect, (since my kids are way beyond tooth-losing-age). But, my grandson, he will be that age before long. $20...isn't than an appropriate amount for the Grannytoothfairy??

I use to get $20 from the tooth fairy....

Ha! Little shyster!

I, on the other hand, failed at being the tooth fairy last night. Don't my kids know that the tooth fairy carries no cash??? They need to lose teeth only during banking hours.

Sometimes the tooth fairy gets really busy and might come on the second or third or 7th day after you lose a tooth. Truth.

I never thought of that one! I usually have a dollar or two on hand due to tolls on the way to work but getting the tooth out from under her pillow without waking her and ruining her fun is almost impossible! It took my husband twenty minutes to get it out from under her pillow the first time. The poor guy had such anxiety about doing the whole thing over again a few weeks later when the second one came out that he waited until I went in to give her some cough medicine with an oral syringe (she had a cold and had started to cough a lot that night coincidentally) in the dark and he ducked in and did the dollar-tooth under the pillow switch real fast before she could realize what happened...

I crocheted a little envelope thing with a flap and a button to close it for my son to use as a Tooth Fairy Pouch (TFP) back in the day -- that way I had something more secure than wrapping the tooth in a tissue, etc.

One day I was helping him clean his room and I noticed the TFP under his pillow... but he hadn't lost any teeth for several weeks. I opened it up and found two small white stones in there. My sweet little boy was trying to scam the Tooth Fairy!

I didn't know whether to be concerned about his scheming con artist personality, or impressed with his ingenuity! LOL

He's now 16yo, and I still tease him about this every few years!

Sometimes the Tooth Fairy has to come back on a different night because the cat likes to chase her. In order to be safe, she just decides to leave the tooth and come back on a different night, maybe the cat will be sleeping or something!

Genius!

I remembered to be the tooth fairy last night. By borrowing a couple singles from my sister. Too much going on last night to go to the bank and sneakily ask for singles while a toothless 7 year old watches me :)

Love it!

Not a school nurse here, but ...

Cherubs they are. They're also amoral and just beginning to learn how to get what they want. Some of the ways they think up to do it are hilarious!

I loved working with the elementary aged kids. Teenager scare me.

We keep a little glass bowl on top of the microwave for loose "silver" change. In the pantry are old coffee cans for those silly pennies. So I always had change for the tooth fairy to use. We gave 50 cents or a dollar a tooth.

I'm a grandma now and I wouldn't give $20 a tooth! :jester:

All 4 of my kids figured out before Kindergarten that there was no tooth fairy or Santa. But we played the game anyway.

I give $5 for the very first lost tooth and $2 for each tooth after.

My eldest is 33 and I had 3 other kids . . . so $5 and $2 waaay back then would have been a lot of money. ;)

Youngest is 14.

My oldest is 11 and my younger two are almost 8 so they are in prime tooth-losing age!
