I gather 46 is too old to be a CNA

Published

I am new here, but I can gather from your silence to my earlier post that 46 is too old to be entering the CNA profession. Can one of you please confirm this? Thank you. It is nice to meet all of you.

Yes, all systems are working; most are in at least good working order.

Specializes in LTC, Rehab, CCU, Alzheimers, Med-Surg.

As long as you can handle the physical intensity of the job, go for it! You could even transition into a hospital job where the physical aspect of the job decreases dramatically.

I wish I worked with more older CNAs, they seem to be very compassionate, and they aren't scared of anything or any situation :)

Thank you, azcna, for your comments.

The hospital idea may be worthwhile, as I have also 3 years exper as an E.D. Tech., incl. Point of Care blood and urine testing.

Specializes in Gerontology, nursing education.

There are many CNAs who are in their forties and older----and many people on these forums who are starting nursing school or going back for more education well into their fifties and beyond.

If this is what you want to do, go for it!

NO WAY!!!!! I am 47 and a NEW CNA- I work for an agency, which I prefer due to my age and well-being. I am pretty fit and strong for my age BUT after reading the bun-burning, sweat dripping, marathon races younger cna's put up with at LTC's- I realized I'd be wiped out my 1st day. HA! Know yourself and know your limits! All the best!

I just started as a CNA and I'm 47. So....of course you're not too old !! :heartbeat

ABSOLUTELY NOT! I'm 50 and have been a tech for almost three years now. The first nine months I was in an assisted living facility. The next year I spent as a tech on the cardiac/stroke floor at a major Chicago area hospital (HARD, CHALLENGING WORK), and as of January of 2010 I transferred to the mother/baby unit of my hospital. THEY LOVE MATURE TECHS! Maturity and solid work ethics are priceless! GO FOR IT!

i see some older ppl getting into nursing these days and in order to do that they have to go through CNA. I got like one old guy and 2 army veterans in my class

I am a 61 year old CNA in Home Health care.

Specializes in LDRP.

i work with a cna in her 70s and she does fine.

I turn 46 next thursday - so I hope not:)

Not too old at any age. I'm working on my Medical Assistant certification, then I'll go for my RN. I'm 60, and will be close to 63 when I'm finished. So what? When are you ever too old to help people? When are you too old to stop caring? And in my case, when are you old enough to give up a lifelong dream? My answer to all these questions is very simple: NEVER!
