Depression/Anxiety prevent me from being CNA?
Thanks for the reply. I'm on more than antidepressants. I also take Klonopin as needed, Xanax as needed, and Ambien as needed for sleep. I think I'm on 12 different meds, given my asthma, allergies, hypothyroidism, and anxiety and depression. I just don't want the school I'm attending to reject me b/c of my health conditions. My doctor gave me a clean bill of health, but will the school believe him given the number of meds I take?

Depression/Anxiety prevent me from being CNA?
Hi everyone, I just went to my family doc and had him fill out the paperwork for my physical examination for the CNA class (I live in Ohio-it's required, I guess.) I have a history of depression and anxiety, and currently take meds for these conditions. I am stable-my doctor said he would attest to that fact if necessary. My question is, will these two conditions prevent me from being a CNA or even taking the class? Will the school hold it against me, or will an employer need to be notified of these conditions? Thanks.

Do you catch a lot of illnesses from your patients?
Hi everybody, I've decided I'm not too old or too fat to be a CNA (thanks for all your advice :)). I do have one worry, however. I am asthmatic and usually experience asthma problems when I get a chest cold. I get flu shots every year and work to keep up my immunity. As nurses' aides, do you find that you catch a lot of colds, influenza, or other illnesses because you work in such close proximity with your patients? Please let me know and thanks.

Need advice-should I become a CNA/STNA at 46?
Thank you for the replies! I did not realize that things got slow on this board over the weekend. I just need to not let some of the horror stories on this website dissuade me from trying.

I gather 46 is too old to be a CNA
I am new here, but I can gather from your silence to my earlier post that 46 is too old to be entering the CNA profession. Can one of you please confirm this? Thank you. It is nice to meet all of you.

Need advice-should I become a CNA/STNA at 46?
I am a 46 year old mom and wife, and our family is in a financial situation where we need me to work. I have not worked outside the home since 2002, and at that time I was an administrative assistant in a job that lasted all of four months. I am 5'3" tall and weigh 200 pounds. I am, obviously, obese. For years I have been interested in becoming a CNA (here in Ohio it's STNA). I have even gone so far as to sign up for the classes, then dropped them at the last minute because I'm worried that I will not be able to do the strenuous physical work involved with being a nursing assistant. I have a genuine interest in working with the elderly and helping them. I am looking at part time work-is this even possible in LTC? And after reading a large number of the posts on this site regarding the work involved with being a nursing assistant, I am still hesitating. There is a class at a local adult career center starting on November 29th for three weeks, costing $647.00. It's either become a nursing assistant or work at Toys R Us as a cashier. Am I too old to be a CNA? What should I do?
