I gather 46 is too old to be a CNA

Published

I am new here, but I can gather from your silence to my earlier post that 46 is too old to be entering the CNA profession. Can one of you please confirm this? Thank you. It is nice to meet all of you.

I got my CNA at 58 I was a banker sat at a desk, I am 5'1" 125 lbs. I sometime finder it harder than someone who is larger than me, but not younger. You are a seasoned adult, great person for the job.

I'm 48, and I start my CNA class this Thursday 1/20/11 ! I plan on working as a CNA while I attend nursing school starting in Sept. 2011. I should become an RN at 50 then on to my bachelors and masters degrees. You're never too old!

I interned at a hospital for a few months and the two CNAs that I worked with were in their late 40s/early 50s and in their 60s. As the previous posts mentioned, you're never too old to start living your dream (or to start chasing after what you want). Go for it!

Keep your body in shape, and your back and legs flexible. And get you some good shoes!!!

Not too old at any age. I'm working on my Medical Assistant certification, then I'll go for my RN. I'm 60, and will be close to 63 when I'm finished. So what? When are you ever too old to help people? When are you too old to stop caring? And in my case, when are you old enough to give up a lifelong dream? My answer to all these questions is very simple: NEVER!

What an inspiration you are !!! :yeah:

Specializes in CNA.

Nope. You are only as old as you feel. If you can handle the bed changes, the poop and some lazy co-workers here and there, then go for it. Im 40 and just became a CNA, going to Nursing school and will graduate with my RN at age 42. Being a CNA is hard work, it is really physically demanding but it is also fun when the residents/patients appreciate what you do for them. The pay isnt great, the hours usually suck, the Admin. will call you all the time to come in for so & so who called in (maybe its just my experience?), but yeah, its not bad and you are not too old for it. Good Luck!

I'm going to take a CNA class starting in March. I felt that I was too old at 38, until I had an interview with the instructor. She was very happy that I applied and felt I had a lot of work and life experience that would be good for the class. :twocents:

From all these comments it appears that the more mature the better for this kind of job.

I work with a couple of aides in their 60s who are great! I also work with a couple who are stll in high school and do a great job as well. It's all about your compassion and work ethic, not at all about age. :)

This is a late reply but one of my coworker is 65 years old and a great CNA! She works on the rehab unit on a fairly busy hall :)
