When at work you must stay off ALL social media. Leave personal cell phones in the locker room or out of reach. After work, leave work at work.

Seems simple enough....
why do so many young adults (and a few older ones, too) have so much trouble understanding this?

Sounds like good advice.

I keep my cell phone in my pocket on vibrate and will only answer away from patient care area, to only two people that would only call me in an emergency. My reason for this is because I had an emergency call while I was finishing up my charting at end of shift, and I WAS NOT TOLD ABOUT IT,and my family calling me was told I had left already, never even bothering to look for me.This irresponsible ward clerk always wanted the desk phone free for her own personal calls.

I keep my cell phone in my office area away from patients but I have an Apple Watch that has cell data. I don't have a direct extension because they don't give them to PRNs, even if you work FT hours. I keep it in theatre mode but I do have it so if my husband, father-in-law, or mom call it will ring and vibrate. They know to only call me in an absolute emergency, otherwise we do literally everything by text or I call them. Why? Because my mother-in-law is currently on hospice and my father has rapidly progressing Parkinson's and is starting to wander and have hallucinations. In fact, the other day he got in his car to go to PT and got into his third car accident in just a year (totaled his car) AND he didn't have his cell phone so my mom had no idea where he was. He's not supposed to be driving because of the PD AND he just had a total hip 4 weeks ago.

Hmmm...not necessary. Being on social media is not the problem. Having a cell phone isn't the problem. Not having self-control in what you post is the problem.

Not an issue where I work. I work in a state prison, and it is actually a crime for me to carry my cell phone while on duty. I wouldn't get past the metal detector with it, anyway.

It’s 2019, it’s a little unrealistic to get 100% of the nursing workforce to part with their cell phones for even half of their shifts.

I work on a behavioral health unit and we aren’t allowed to bring our phones onto the unit!
