I Contracted HIV

Published

I came here to post because I've just felt very sad for the last few days. I graduated in May 2008 and started in the ER at a local hospital. In October I was trying to start an IV on a man who came in and accidently pricked myself! We started all the usual protocol for this type of event as soon as it happened. I continued to be tested, but this Tuesday I got a call from the doc to come in. I'm now HIV+. I know its not the end of the world with all the advance they've made and what not, but I'm still very sad...especially since I've always dreamed of being a mother to many children. This may also affect my work. I've been on approved leave since finding out. Just had to vent about this guys. Thanks.

Sarah,

I pray with confidence for your well-being. With faith, all is possible through HIM.

I'm SO sorry! *Hugs*

May God be with you and I will keep you in my prayers!

Under the care of your HIV provider you can have biological HIV- children.

Your diagnosis should not affect your work and employment.

There is a lot of misinformation out there, even from well-meaning people and providers who do not specialize in HIV. Get connected with a qualified provider and get your information there. Do not drop out of care or become depressed/anxious due to what people have told you.

Here is the American Academy of HIV Medicine "find a provider":

There are more people than you know living happy, full, long lives with HIV. STAY IN CARE and so will you.

Wishing you all the best in your journey.

Hey-

Sorry to hear you have been diagnosed but listen...

I know a woman who has been positive since she was 21 years old. She has two beautiful children, both negative and very healthy/smart little people! One is 8 and the other is 4. She is 35 and looks healthier than me!

Don't let HIV stop you from pursuing any goal of yours. It hasn't stopped my friend from getting married (twice, eek!), starting a family and getting promoted at work!

You will need specialized care but the risks can be minimized to the point of miniscule.

Keep your attitude positive and the results will be positive!

sarah, love, there are no words.

you are living what most would consider a nightmare...but look, you're living it. i admire your honesty and bravery.

please don't apologize for venting. do it as often as you need to...you can see how much support you have!
